Our client, based in the Bedford area, is looking to recruit a Manual Machinist.
Main Purpose:
The main purpose of the role is to produce machined tooling components using various metal machining centres, operating independently. Although primarily focused on the automotive sector, the role also involves industrial engineering projects in sectors such as logistics and agriculture.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Set and operate machines in line with production times and drawing specifications.
2. Select and load suitable cutting tools to optimize time and cost.
3. Produce quality components according to specifications and tolerances.
4. Supervise machine operations and make adjustments for better results.
5. Inspect and measure components using appropriate devices to ensure standards.
6. Produce parts within acceptable timescales as directed by the line manager.
7. Pay attention to detail, maintaining good eyesight (with glasses if required).
8. Resolve any problems that arise during machining.
9. Maintain flexibility in daily tasks and responsibilities.
10. Follow health and safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment.
11. Keep the work area clean and tidy.
Experience and Qualifications:
1. Ideally, time-served or completed an apprenticeship as a miller and/or turner, with previous experience in a machine shop environment.
2. Strong attention to detail and ability to read and interpret 2D drawings.
3. Ability to work collaboratively with other workshop disciplines.
4. Willingness to develop new skills both within and outside your core discipline.
5. Good communication skills (oral, reading, writing).
6. Ability to analyze and solve problems as they arise.
Additional Information:
The successful candidate should be self-motivated, a team player, and experienced in machining, with skills in multiple disciplines to produce high-quality machined items. Ideally, you will be apprenticeship trained and competent in working safely from technical drawings, maintaining high standards of workmanship, cleanliness, and adhering to timescales.
Terms:
* The position is permanent, based on 40 hours per week.
* Salary is based on experience, knowledge, and competence.
* Access to the company pension scheme.
* 22 days of annual holiday, increasing by 1 day per year up to 25 days.
Skills required include manual machining, manual lathes, mills, and CNC.
