The post of Clinical Fellow in Urology is based at the Western General Hospital, which acts as local, regional and in specific instances supraregional referral centre for Urological Diseases. This involves service cover for peripheral units at St John’s Hospital in Livingston and Roodlands General Hospital in Haddington. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to contribute to the Reconstructive Urological Surgery team of 4 Consultants at subspecialist trainee level. This includes involvement in operating theatres, subspecialist outpatient clinics and urodynamics. Subspecialty sessions are predominantly located at the Western General Hospital, with emphasis on training. Our tertiary referral centre in the East Scotland region of the UK provides full spectrum of Reconstructive Urology, urethral reconstruction, bladder reconstruction and management of male and female urinary incontinence. We aim to provide a mentoring environment for those wanting to progress in this field of sub-specialism. Our unit has a track record of successful training of overseas fellows previously. This includes: Specialist reconstructive clinic - provides supervised clinical environment to develop clinical skills in reconstructive urology. Specialist diagnostics – Video Urodynamics, Urethral pressure profilometry. Reconstructive urological surgery – mentoring in developing surgical skills in urethroplasty, male and female anti-incontinence surgery and bladder reconstruction. Regional SNS service and combined clinics/operating with urogynaecology and endometriosis regional service for appropriately selected patients and RPF ( ureteric reconstruction) Regular local and regional MDT. Complex paediatric to adult transition clinic ( neurourology/ recon) Specialists neuro- urology clinic ( with specialists MS service ) The post holder will require to complete a relevant to functional urology project and audit ( comparison/assessment of treatments in DO/NDO). There will be an expected service commitment to provide or contribute to General Urology sessions (mainly lower urinary tract endoscopic surgery [diagnosis/ treatment], penoscrotal surgery, outpatient clinics and flexible cystoscopy lists) for one session a week as required. General Urology sessions may involve all sites where Urology services are provided by the network.
