Contract Type: Permanent – Full Time (37.5 hour week)
Requirements: Accounting qualifications such as ACCA, ACA and CIMA or equivalent in a related field. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a senior finance role, preferably in the construction industry or similar.

The Opportunity: We are looking for an experienced finance professional, with proven leadership qualities to join our senior management team, taking the role as Finance Director. Leading the finance department, you will inherit a small, experienced and established team of 3 direct reports, comprising of a management accountant and two finance officers. You will be responsible for all finance related matters for Camel Glass and Joinery Limited and Exeter Window Store Limited. As the fourth member of the senior management team, you will play a key role in contributing to our strategic development plan objectives, helping implement existing and formulate new strategies that align with our ambitious targets.

JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Finance Director & part of senior management team
RESPONSIBLE TO: Managing Director
HOURS: Mon – Fri 37.5 hour week
PURPOSE OF THE JOB: Responsible for the financial health and compliance of the group. Under your leadership, you will manage a small finance team to ensure efficient and accurate accounting operations are achieved. You will provide monthly and annual financial updates, budget estimates, produce forecasts, prepare tax and VAT returns, liaise with auditors, and interpret financial information to managerial staff when needed. As part of the senior management team, you will have an input on the strategic direction of the business, and a shared responsibility in helping to implement the current company aims and objectives, whilst planning and working on future business aspirations.
Specific Responsibilities
* Effective line management and oversight of a small finance team to ensure day-to-day financial operations within the company such as payroll, invoicing, purchase ledger and all other transactions are carried out timely, accurately and efficiently.
* Review financial data, generate monthly and annual reports and interpret financial information to managerial staff while recommending further courses of action.
* Prepare budgets and forecasting information as and when needed.
* Prepare for and when needed, contract outside services for tax preparation, auditing, banking, investments, and other financial needs as necessary.
* Analyse costs, sales results and the company’s actual performance compared to the business plan, to inform and advise on business planning.
* Seek out methods for minimising financial risk to the company.
* Understand and adhere to financial regulations and legislation.
* Establish, maintain and embed finance-related policies and procedures for the group.
* Track the company’s financial status and performance to advise on areas for potential improvement.
* Stay up to date with technological advances and accounting software to be used for financial purposes.
* Collating data to maintain and generate finance-related KPI information and presenting to the wider management team.
* Correspond with various other departments, discussing company plans and agreeing on future paths to be taken.
* Be pro-active in looking for opportunities to add value or reduce business-related costs where possible.
Forming part of the senior management team you will have a shared responsibility working with the team on the following:
* Play an active role in discussing, agreeing and implementing the strategic direction of the company.
* Updating the company strategic development plan.
* Developing, updating and amending company policy.
* Creating and reviewing KPIs.
* Regular reviewing of risks and help inform mitigation plans.
* Chairing and presenting at meetings.
* Presenting information to other managers or shareholders in both written and verbal format.
* Conduct budget reviews and report cost plans.
* Monitor and improve quality control systems.
* Seek out patterns or reasons of repetitive poor performance and look for improved methods to improve operations for the group.
* Attending corporate events and promoting the company brand to the public.
As a senior manager, there may be rare occasions where the business need requires extra work to be done, which could be outside of normal working hours.
KEY SKILLS
* Proven experience as a Finance Director or equivalent in the sector.
* Working knowledge of all statutory legislation and regulations.
* A solid understanding of financial statistics and accounting principles.
* Proficient user of finance software such as Sage and Excel.
* Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
* Able to manage, guide and lead employees to ensure appropriate financial processes are being used.
* Displaying leadership and taking ownership, especially during times of difficulty.
* Work well under pressure, with a calm and methodical approach.
