Job Opportunity: Temporary Large Animal Veterinary Receptionist
Are you an organised, compassionate, and detail-oriented individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment? Hook Norton Veterinary Group is excited to be looking for a new Large Animal Veterinary Receptionist for our farm and equine departments. If you have a passion for excellent customer service and want to contribute to a practice that values independence, expertise, and teamwork, we’d love to hear from you!
This part-time, temporary role offers flexibility, with options to work 30, 35, or 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, and includes 1:6 Saturdays (7:45 am to 1 pm). Shifts are rotated weekly between mornings (7:45 am to 2 pm) and afternoons (1:30 pm to 7 pm).
About Us
Hook Norton Veterinary Group is a well-established and independent veterinary practice recognised for excellence in Small Animal, Equine, and Farm veterinary care. We have an extensive team of skilled professionals who provide outstanding care across a broad geographical area.
This role as a Large Animal Veterinary Receptionist is based at our Hook Norton Practice (OX15 5DG) and offers a unique opportunity to join a close-knit team that combines innovation with traditional values. Our directors are practising vets, ensuring an agile and responsive approach to both staff and client needs.
The Role
This isn’t your average receptionist position. As a Large Animal Veterinary Receptionist, you’ll play a critical role in the daily operations of our busy practice. Your day will be varied and challenging, requiring you to manage multiple tasks while providing excellent service to clients as well as supporting our veterinary team.
Key Responsibilities
* Client Interaction: Welcome clients warmly, both in person and over the phone, ensuring they feel valued and cared for.
* Appointment Management: Schedule and manage appointments for farm and equine patients, often requiring logistical planning and coordination.
* Administrative Support: Handle payments, manage stock rotation, and process dispensing duties (training provided).
* Reception Oversight: Maintain a tidy, professional, and welcoming reception area.
An understanding of the local area and surrounding counties is highly beneficial (but not essential) as you’ll be responsible for coordinating the daily veterinary diaries and ensuring logistical efficiency.
What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate for our Large Animal Veterinary Receptionist position will be:
* A natural communicator with a friendly and empathetic manner, both on the phone and in person.
* Someone who thrives under pressure and can balance accuracy with speed in a fast-paced environment.
* Someone with the ability to navigate sensitive and challenging situations with ease.
* Comfortable with technology, with strong IT skills and the ability to learn new systems quickly.
* Experienced in customer service, with at least two years of experience, ideally in a clinical, retail, or hospitality setting.
Experience in a farm or equine environment is beneficial but not essential. Due to our rural location, having reliable transport is a must.
What We Offer
As a valued member of the Hook Norton Veterinary Group, you’ll receive a competitive package that rewards your hard work and commitment.
* Pay Rate: Starting at £12.21/hour, increasing to £12.60/hour after probation. Enhanced rates are available for experienced veterinary receptionists.
* Flexible Shifts: Work between 7:45 am and 7 pm on a rotating weekly schedule (am: 7:45 am to 2 pm and pm: 1:30 pm to 7 pm), plus 1:6 Saturday mornings.
* Career Development: Full training provided, with opportunities to progress through reception standards qualifications.
