The University of Central Lancashire is working with local partners to develop a modern, innovative veterinary programme, focused on producing clinically competent, compassionate, and pragmatic graduates. The School of Veterinary Medicine believes that everyone, regardless of background, should have an opportunity to turn their aspirations of a career in animal care into a reality.
We are seeking to appoint a Veterinary Development Coach, who will contribute to the delivery of our Veterinary Coaching and Mentoring Programme. The programme will exist throughout the 5 years of study, helping veterinary students to thrive whilst at university and preparing them for a fulfilling career. The programme will support students to adapt to a new way of learning, helping them to be competent in pursuing their own learning opportunities, whilst also being confident to seek support from peers, mentors, and tutors alike. The programme will have three core elements: academic skills, personal development, and clinical practice.
The successful candidates will support students across all elements of the Veterinary Coaching and Mentoring Programme, ensuring that students thrive during their period of study. The Veterinary Development Coach will also support in-practice educators, ensuring that placement providers are well equipped to provide an exceptional learning environment for our students. The successful candidates will deliver both one-to-one and group sessions to students as part of the delivery of the Veterinary Coaching and Mentoring Programme and BVMS curriculum.
The successful candidates will have extensive experience of working in a clinical veterinary setting and experience of mentoring others within a clinical veterinary environment. Candidates will be a registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) or Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (MRCVS) (or eligible to register with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS)). Those with experience working in a veterinary educational setting or holding a Level 7 ILM or equivalent coaching qualification will also be considered. The successful candidates will be enthusiastic, collaborative, adaptable, and flexible, being willing to step in and help where and when required in a fast-moving and changing environment as the vet school develops.
