This exciting opportunity is to join the Ophthalmology Department as a Full Time and Part Time Locum Paediatric Ophthalmologist with a Special Interest in Adult Strabismus at University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust.
University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) is a large teaching hospital and major trauma centre. It is one of the largest and busiest NHS teaching trusts in the country, caring for over a million people from across Coventry, Warwickshire, and beyond. This Trust has over 1,200 beds for a local population of 500,000 and a regional population of 1.5 million.
This post will be based at the University Hospital site but will involve transfer to our other site of St Cross Hospitals Rugby. The post is 10 programmed activities (10 PA), with SPA, and will involve being part of our on-call rota.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide a Paediatric Ophthalmology service across outpatients and theatres including participation in the Consultant on-call supported by 1st and 2nd on-call.
2. Work with other members of the Ophthalmology team to provide a comprehensive service to the Trust, Primary Care Trusts, and General Practitioners.
3. Develop close collaborative links with clinicians in your specialty and work to develop high-standard services, including treatment protocols and guidelines.
4. Participate in the departmental audit programme and multidisciplinary audits related to your clinical interest.
5. Participate in regular clinical meetings and postgraduate activities.
6. Supervise trainees in the Department, assisting in their training and appraisal.
7. Participate in the Trust Performance and Annual review scheme, supporting principles of revalidation by the General Medical Council.
8. Engage in clinical governance, risk management, and clinical audit, including Departmental Error Reviews.
9. Comply with all relevant Trust Policies and Procedures, including infection control practices.
