Victim and Witness Care Officer
Location: Leamington Spa
Contract Type: Permanent
Part Time: 18.5 hours
Salary: £13,894 - £14,937

The main purpose of the role is to provide appropriate support to victims and witnesses of offences which are subject to a court hearing.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Act as a point of contact for victims and witnesses from charge through to sentencing, providing timely information in line with existing requirements.
2. Provide an enhanced level of care and service from entry of a not guilty plea, in line with the Victims Code based on individual needs.
3. Complete relevant needs and risk assessments, ensuring findings are understood by partner agencies.
4. Liaise with the Crown Prosecution Service and Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunal Service to ensure victim and witness attendance at court.
5. Provide victims and witnesses with details of appropriate third-party support available (including Victim Support).
6. Assist specialist Local Policing and Protective Services units that support victims and witnesses when directed.
7. Maintain relevant information on IT systems, complying with requirements and data protection principles.
8. Provide updates and outcomes to victims and witnesses in a timely manner using available channels.
9. Review and suggest improvements for the service offered by the existing team, utilizing new and innovative working practices.
10. Undertake other duties commensurate with the nature, level of responsibility and grading of this post, as required.
Knowledge:
Educated to A level or equivalent qualification.
Experience:
Experience of working within a customer care environment.
Key Skills:
1. Excellent customer service skills.
2. Ability to build relationships and provide support to individuals dealing with emotional/traumatic issues.
3. Good oral and written communication skills, including the ability to impart critical information and support a third party remotely.
4. Ability to work under pressure and manage and prioritize workload.
5. Competent in use of IT, including Windows packages or equivalent.
Special Conditions:
Exposure to distressing material. Working hours between 0700 and 1700hrs within the Flexi-time scheme with a requirement to work outside of core office hours on a rota as required.
