We are seeking to appoint a Specialty Doctor in Trauma & Orthopaedics and at Scunthorpe General Hospital/Goole & District Hospital to join our forward thinking department. The successful appointee will join a service led by 6 Consultant Surgeons supported by a team of 7 Specialty Doctors in a department providing services at Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital or 7 Consultant Surgeons and 7 Specialty Doctors at Scunthorpe General Hospital and Goole & District Hospital. The vacancy is for a full time post.
As a senior employee of the Trust the post-holder will work in close co-operation with, and support, other clinical, medical, professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Trust’s patients.
Integral to the responsibilities of the post are the following requirements:-
• To ensure the provision of a first class clinical service
• To provide effective leadership to junior doctors and medical students
• To undertake all work in accordance with the Trust’s procedures and operating policies
• To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust’s and Operational Group’s services plans

The post would suite a good team player dedicated to high quality patient care. The opportunity exists to work in a non-hierarchical setting and offer a first class Trauma & Orthopaedic support in this busy DGH.
The post holder will report directly to his/her Consultant and the duties will be those of a post fellowship Registrar. An outline of these duties are detailed below:
• The postholder will assist and ensure theday to day careand management of the patients on the ward and in outpatients is met.
• The postholder will ensure the delivery of adaily ward round, ensuring that junior staff understand and progress the patients along theirclinical pathway.
• The postholder will be required to attend thedaily Trauma meeting.
• The postholder will take part in the 1:7 second on-call rota.
• The postholder willsupervisethe work of the Core and Foundation Trainee and act as an intermediate between these members of the team and the Consultant.
• The postholder will provide expert assistance to the Consultant in theElective and Trauma Operating Theatresand will, when necessary, act asFirst Surgeon.
• The postholder will assist in theteachingof Junior members of the team, both on the wards and in the Theatres and to facilitateAuditwork when required.
• The postholder will providecontinuity of careand service provision in the absence of the named Consultant, including outpatient and inpatient services.
• The postholder will support the provision of anEmergency Trauma serviceand form part of the on-call rota; supporting the4 hours wait in A&E and MIU, ensuring appropriate admission, liaising andadvising the on-call Consultantas appropriate and when necessary,commencing with emergency surgery.
• The postholder will develop their own areas of interest and expertise to augment the provision of the service.
• The postholder will maintain their standard of performance bykeeping knowledge and skills up to date.
• The postholder will work with the Rota Coordinator to providecover for absent colleaguesboth inside and outside of working hours along with flexible use of time depending on the needs of the department.
• The postholder will be required to assist in the provision of care to the patients of Consultants other than those specifically named in their jobplan.
• The postholder will be required to undertakeadministrative work, including the completion ofdischarge lettersand summaries in line with Trust targets;acting on resultsand clinic letters and ensuring this workload is acted upon and maintained in the absence of the Consultant.
• The postholder will ensure thatpreoperative checkshave been carried out and investigationsare to hand inreadiness for surgery.
• The postholder will work across Trust sites to support the work of their Consultant and the department as a whole.
