An exciting opportunity has arisen at LRI to become a Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse in the newly expanded Oncology and Hematology Assessment Unit (OAU). The newly opened unit will have capacity for 12 acute beds and 5 patient treatment chairs. Successful applicants should be motivated and passionate about providing high quality patient care.
The ideal candidate would assist the ward manager in the leadership of the ward. Acting as a role model, you will lead in ensuring safe, compassionate, quality care for all our patients, staff and visitors. Also to ensure that staff training and developmental needs are met through individual teaching, assessment and support. You will be involved in HR including appraisal, recruitment, and sickness and absence management, ensure that quality and strategic objectives are met, both for the ward and the Trust, and be responsible for the day-to-day running of the ward in the ward manager's absence
Ideally you will have Hematology or Oncology experience and have evidence of post-registration continuing development. We are looking for a creative and inspiring individual who is motivated by the desire to provide a high standard of nursing care, come and join our team.
Ward is a busy 12 bedded unit with 5 treatment chairs, the role will be working with Osborne treatment Centre and Bone Marrow Transplant Unit within the cancer Centre based at Leicester Royal Infirmary.
Deputise and take charge of the given area regularly in the absence of the Ward/Unit Manager who has 24 hour accountability and responsibility.
Participate in the effective clinical leadership and management of the ward team.
Actively contribute to the improvement of services and the quality of care provision to meet the needs of patients, service users and their families.
Act as a role model, mentoring, teaching, assessing and supporting students and learners on placement and participate in the education, development and mentorship of other staff.

Share responsibility with the Ward/Unit Manager to ensure that the highest standards of infection prevention and control are practiced at all times.
Take due regard of the importance of the effect and consequence of the ward /care environment with regard to its physical, psychological and social effects on patients and care delivery.
Ensure that the delivery of care to own patients and for all patients when in charge meet the standards determined by the Ward/Unit Manager and the Standards for Better Health.
