Venator is recruiting for Senior Product & Applications Technologist to join the Innovation team in Wynyard.
The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, planning and carrying out specialised technical work programmes to support the development of new products, new applications and innovative technical platforms.
Job responsibilities include:
1. To design, plan and carry out novel and specialised experimental work programmes in order to expand the company technology base.
2. To develop and evaluate novel product design technologies for the plastic &/or paper markets to support business growth in existing and new coatings application areas.
3. To synthesise and evaluate new pigments, compositions and morphologies at the laboratory-scale in support of product development programmes and/or the development of innovative technical platforms.
4. To interpret and report the results of application tests and pigment evaluations to meet both the data and the information needs of Scientists, Project Leaders and Technical Support Managers.
5. To provide technical assistance, training and problem solving, both in existing and new areas of study to support team development activities.
6. To contribute information, know-how and ideas to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of innovation and technical support programmes.
7. To improve and develop new applications testing and synthesis methods to meet changing business needs.
8. To ensure equipment is maintained in a fit-for-purpose state to deliver optimised high quality results in a safe and efficient manner.
9. To evaluate and report results, observations and conclusions to Scientists and other technical contacts in the group and present as required to the wider technical community.
10. To carry out all duties at all times in compliance with all Venator EHS, Product Stewardship, SOX and Business Conduct policies and guidelines.
Candidate requirements:
Minimum of a Degree, or equivalent, in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science or other related science subject
Essential
11. Experience of carrying out research and development studies
12. Experience of using plastics technology & testing (extrusion, injection moulding, film production)
Desirable
13. Knowledge of paint, coatings or inks technology and practical experience of developing and optimising formulations
14. Experience in the chemical industry or in closely-related sectors
15. Knowledge of pigment science and applications (plastics, polymers, paper, paper laminates)
16. Knowledge of materials chemistry testing
