The Estimator is responsible for receiving enquiries, estimating costs, and converting orders into manufacturing packages for fabrication. The role involves clear communication of all aspects of the quotation process and handover to the Contract Manager, as well as building and maintaining professional relationships with key customers.
Key Responsibilities:
Read and interpret technical tender drawings.
Extract and price materials accurately.
Collaborate with team members to produce competitive bids.
Use practical knowledge to estimate costs, including materials, labour, site operations, and plant requirements for comprehensive tender submissions.
Establish and manage supply chain costs for inclusion in tenders.
Prepare and send quotation documents to clients.
Engage with customers to identify and secure business opportunities from both existing and new clients.
Negotiate tenders and close sales.
Develop and maintain a consistent system of market prices.
Conduct handover meetings with the Contracts team after the award of tenders.Skills and Experience:
Strong understanding of structural, secondary, and architectural steelwork.
Minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar role.
Ability to read and interpret technical/architectural drawings.
Knowledge of building law, regulations, contract law, and health & safety law.
Strong financial and numerical skills with sound commercial awareness.
Effective communication and negotiation skills.
Familiarity with CRM systems (desirable).
