We are seeking a skilled Fire Door Engineer to join our team, ensuring all fire doors across our facilities meet industry standards and regulations.
Job Overview:
The Fire Door Engineer will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of fire doors across multiple care homes or facilities. This role is critical in ensuring the safety and compliance of the organization’s fire prevention systems, protecting the lives of residents, staff, and visitors. The engineer will work closely with the Health & Safety and Facilities teams to ensure all fire doors meet the latest legal standards and industry regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
4. Installation & Maintenance : Install, inspect, and maintain fire doors in accordance with industry standards (BS 8214 and relevant regulations) and manufacturer guidelines.
5. Compliance : Ensure all fire doors comply with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and are regularly inspected and certified.
6. Inspections : Conduct routine inspections and audits of all fire doors, checking for any signs of wear, damage, or misuse, ensuring they operate as designed in case of a fire.
7. Repairs : Carry out minor repairs and adjustments to fire doors, such as replacing hinges, seals, door closers, and latches, and identifying more significant repairs or replacements as needed.
8. Documentation : Maintain detailed records of all inspections, maintenance work, repairs, and replacements, ensuring up-to-date fire safety logs.
9. Risk Assessments : Assist in fire safety risk assessments across the facilities, offering recommendations for improvement to ensure the safety of residents and compliance with legal standards.
10. Communication : Work closely with the Health & Safety team, Estates teams, and external fire safety professionals to coordinate and schedule inspections, repairs, and replacements.
11. Training : Provide basic fire door awareness training to staff, ensuring they understand the importance of fire doors and how to report faults or damage.
Qualifications & Skills:

Proven experience as a Fire Door Engineer or in a similar role, ideally within the care sector or healthcare environment.In-depth knowledge of fire door regulations and safety standards, including BS 8214.Strong understanding of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.Ability to carry out installations, repairs, and maintenance of fire doors to a high standard.Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Ability to maintain accurate records and provide clear documentation.Good communication and teamwork skills.A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel between multiple sites, if required.
14. Desirable :
15. Relevant qualifications in fire door installation or inspection (e.g., FDIS Diploma, BM Trada certification).Experience working within the care sector, understanding the unique fire safety challenges in these environments.Knowledge of other fire safety equipment (e.g., alarms, extinguishers) is an advantage.
