Job Title: Quality Inspector
Reporting to: Head of Quality
Location: Milton Keynes
Main purpose of the role:
To be responsible for ensuring that all goods supplied to Helix Ltd are to the standards of quality set. To ensure all suppliers and both Helix Ltd Purchasing and Engineering teams are made aware of any quality issues so that these can be dealt with in a timely manner. To ensure Helix Ltd capability is continually improved by developing best practice quality control processes with our suppliers.
Key responsibilities:
1. Checking all deliveries have inspection records/certificates of conformity supplied where specified.
2. Storing the inspection records/certificates of conformity and keeping a KPI for all major suppliers, feeding the KPI data through to the Purchasing team.
3. Inspecting batch or part batch deliveries to ensure that the goods meet with IP’s dimensional/control standards.
4. Creating NCR documents where parts fail to meet the standards set and feeding this information to the supplier and Helix's Purchasing/Engineering teams.
5. Liaising with internal suppliers if rework is required, where approved by the Helix Engineering team in a timely manner.
6. Ensuring any parts leaving Helix are inspected for damage prior to being packed and dispatched for further work such as heat treatment/surface finish etc.
7. Ensuring any parts received into goods inwards are appropriately packaged and giving feedback to the IP Purchasing team where suppliers have not met Helix’s standards.
8. Carrying out supplier audits to ensure there is an ongoing quality management process as expected by Helix Ltd suppliers.
9. Carrying out general stores duties such as goods receiving, stock movements, PI counting and packaging/carriage of goods.
10. Maintaining best working practices at all times in line with Health & Safety policy guidelines.
11. Identifying inspection equipment needs, justifying the cost, and arranging procurement.
12. Managing equipment calibration.
13. Raising NCR Reports and liaising with design team, purchasing team and vendors regarding their satisfactory resolution.
Person Specification:
Essential:
Education, training and qualifications: Qualified to a minimum level of C&G – time served.
Skills, knowledge and abilities:
* Ability to read/understand Engineering CAD drawings and dimensional tolerances (GD&T).
* Familiarity with general engineering finishing processes.
* Intermediate level in Microsoft Office including Excel.
* Good understanding of best stock control processes.
* Ability to discuss/resolve issues with IP’s suppliers.
* Understanding and analyzing metrology reports including CMM, surface roughness and form measurements.
* General knowledge of NDT techniques.
Experience:
* Measuring components using manual inspection equipment including verniers, calipers, Micrometer, Johannsson, Pin, and Digital height gauges.
* Basic calibration and process management.
* Parts management using ERP/MRP systems.
* CMM operation and programming using PC-DMIS software.
* Working to ISO 9001 standards preferred.
* Able to use Faro Arm/Laser scanning system.
Personal attributes:
* Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
* Able to work independently and as part of a team.
Additional requirements:
* Willing to travel to clients’ sites.
* Full Clean UK Driving License.
