Opportunity:
We have an opening for a senior support worker, based at our 3 bedded EBD children’s residential home in Duston, Northamptonshire. The home is situated close to the town centre and bus stop and is also approx. 10/15 mins walk from Sixfields stadium.
As a senior support worker, you will be responsible for the supervision of a shift and will lead the staff team to support children with their daily routines. Our children love taking part in a variety of activities from baking, cinema, go-karting, arts and crafts, walks and our team are there to support them every step of the way!
* Hours of work – full time, permanent, 40 hours per week.
* Salary - £27,785 - £30,275 per annum (£13.36 - £14.56 per hour) plus £44.56 per sleep in
* Bonus opportunity to earn £1,400 attendance bonus (paid quarterly)
* QCF Level 3 in Children’s Residential Care is essential or equivalent qualification
Core Duties and Responsibilities:
* Ensure the protection and safeguard the wellbeing of the young people in our care.
* Supervise support workers and cascade information so that our young people are cared for, guided and supported appropriately in line with relevant legislative, contractual and inspection framework requirements.
* Demonstrate to the young people the value of education, care and development so that they improve behaviour, by being a positive role model.
* Build and create mutual trust and respect with young people in order that they respond and react appropriately to information and instructions.
* Define structures and boundaries of behaviour to young people, acting as a positive role model, so they understand behaviour expected.
* Produce, maintain and distribute house paperwork to ensure relevant information is recorded accurately and is available.
* Support and analyse the young people’s behaviour to avoid incidents and maximise positive behaviours.
* Create and produce activities to occupy and develop young people in order that they gain skills and education on an informed basis
* Coach, support and develop Support Workers ensuring their performance and potential is maximised to meet contractual and company requirements.
* Provide basic advice and skills to young people on managing their finances and other everyday life skills.
* Support with day to day tasks within the home, such as meal preparation, laundry, cleaning, daily routines.
* Taking our young people to school or to medical appointments, activities etc.
What you’ll bring:
* Compassion, patience, and a genuine desire to make a difference in young people’s lives.
* A QCF level 3 in Residential Childcare, or an equivalent qualification.
* Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays to meet operational needs of the home
* Be able to cover sleep ins – on average one a week.
* Positive role model – honesty and empathy are a must.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to handle challenging situations with patience and a calm demeanour.
