Job title: Principal Engineer – Software – SMCS
Location: New Malden. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.
Salary: Circa £60,000+ (depending on skills and experience)
What you’ll be doing:
* Lead a team of software engineers in the design, implementation, testing and acceptance of SMCS software releases. The SMCS Software Team Leader has the authority to organise, delegate and manage the workflow and responsibilities of all members within a SMCS Software Engineering Team, liaising with stakeholders at all levels, to ensure software is delivered on schedule, to cost and to quality.
* Work with product engineering teams to deliver through-lifecycle aspects of the development and requirements.
* Work in conjunction with the SMCS Software Development Manager, to assign engineering resources as required to meet SMCS Programme priority needs.
* Responsible for delivery of all software engineering effort, including budget, schedule, work package allocation and tracking with EVM (or similar).
* Ensure the development and execution of resource plans including forward load forecasting, recruitment & reassignment of engineers to meet the requirements of allocated software programme(s).
* Engage with SMCS customers and end users, as required, to enable development of the SMCS Programme(s) and the continued evolution of the SMCS product.
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
* Team lead/line management experience and supporting multiple complex programmes.
* A solid understanding of the software lifecycle (e.g. waterfall, Agile, Spiral) and associated methodologies (e.g. UML).
* Significant experience of managing software engineering programmes, including the ability to work within challenging budgets and timescales, work package allocation and progress tracking.
* Ensuring that the development and execution of resource plans including forward load forecasting, recruitment & reassignment of engineers to meet the requirements of software programme.
* Excellent communication skills and experience interfacing with customers.
Desirable:
* Tracking using Earned Value Management.
* Experience of Atlassian toolset.
