Key role objective
The principle function of this position is to ensure WJ UK’s Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental policies are implemented consistently across the company. To develop, implement and monitor WJ’s Integrated Management System (IMS) to reviewing all Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental related strategies, policies and procedures, risk assessments and safe working practices in accordance with relevant Legislation and standards. To work proactively with staff of all levels to establish and maintain efficient & safe systems of work and a safe environment.

Key areas of responsibility
* Review, develop and maintain WJ’s Integrated Management System (IMS), ensuring all Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality (SHEQ) strategies, policies, procedures, risk assessments, and safe working practices are up-to-date and compliant with relevant legislation and standards.
* Inspire, motivate, mentor, coach and advise company personnel, contractors, and suppliers on SHEQ matters.
* Provide support and guidance on SHEQ issues throughout the business.
* Devise, implement, and maintain an effective audit and mentoring regime to verify SHEQ policies, processes, and procedures, including satisfactory audits of suppliers.
* Conduct internal audits, assessments, and inspections to ensure compliance with legislation, standards, and IMS policies, processes, and procedures.
* Train and mentor staff and contractors to ensure they are competent and capable of performing their tasks.
* Maintain the company’s ISO9001, ISO14001, OHSAS18001, Achilles UVDB, Building Confidence, and Constructionline certifications in line with IMS policies, processes, and procedures.
* Promote and raise awareness of SHEQ issues at all organizational levels, ensuring legislative and best practice requirements are communicated and implemented.
* Monitor, measure, and record SHEQ objectives and KPIs, ensuring timely dissemination of this information throughout the organization.
* Compile monthly SHEQ reports for Directors, Senior, and Middle Managers, and ensure timely execution of assigned actions.
* Ensure compliance with applicable legal and statutory requirements.
* Report any safety or environmental accidents, incidents, or near misses immediately to the Directors and Senior Management Team, and conduct investigations to identify root causes and disseminate lessons learned throughout the organization.
* Influence and develop relationships at all levels to foster a positive SHEQ culture within the business.
* Take responsibility for personal health and safety and that of colleagues, in accordance with current construction guidance and relevant national legislation.
* Perform other duties as reasonably expected.

Qualifications & Experience
1. Essential: Motivated, hardworking individual with excellent written and communication skills. Minimum 10 years’ construction industry experience, demonstrating skills, training, and knowledge such as:
* Relevant professional qualification (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma, NVQ level 5 Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety Practice)
* Desirable: ISO 9001, ISO 14001 & OHSAS 18001 Auditor experience
* Ability to lead SHEQ at a high level and influence staff, managers, and directors; communication is key
* Excellent written and interpersonal skills; ability to challenge constructively
* Good technical and engineering understanding
* Effective teamwork and networking skills; ability to work independently using initiative
* Ability to plan, prioritize, and organize own workload
* Extensive knowledge of effective SHEQ management strategies and best practices
* Detailed knowledge of current SHEQ legislation and their application in the workplace
* Flexibility to travel throughout the UK to visit project sites and WJ yard facility
* Full UK Driving License
Working Conditions
The role is predominately office based at our UK head office at Kings Langley or our Office/Yard at Nottingham, but you will be expected to visit our other offices works sites in the UK as required.
Physical Requirements
The role is predominately office based, but does require that the candidate utilizes a Visual Display Unit (VDU) as part of their day to day activities.
