An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Quantity Surveyor to join our team. The role can be based from one of our company locations in Bristol, Chester or Manchester. To be considered, applicants will have an Engineering or Technical background with previous experience of working in a similar role. The Quantity Surveyor will be responsible to provide advice, report on and control all commercial and financial aspects of projects and contracts. The Quantity Surveyor will review all enquiries and provide competitive estimates that underpin the overall proposals for all mechanical projects for structural, piping and fabrication. The role will be the key point of contact to interface with departments within the business in relation to Estimating including within the Project Management Office, Finance, Engineering, Construction, IT and Commercial. Key Accountabilities to include but not limited to: Responsibility for analytical cost estimates and tenders, from receipt of enquiry to tender submission. Research the cost of items to ensure the best price and quality is identified. Collaborate with relevant team members to ensure that prices obtained from external suppliers or sub-contractors are an accurate and competitive reflection of the works required. Co-ordinate all costs and compiling the quotation document and package of information to be submitted to the customer. Responsible for writing tender documents and preparing tender packs. Preparing post-bid submissions, organise the responses to requests for clarification. Managing the development of customer presentations (pre and post proposal). Liaise with BUK management team, particularly with the Business Development Director, Project Director and Managing Director and Global core business functional leads as appropriate to ensure that, prior to submission, quotations reflect agreements made with our customers. Analyse drawings, specifications and other documentation to prepare comprehensive build cost estimates. Participate in the design development to assess buildability, materials, innovation and cost effectiveness. Commercial awareness of contractual terms relating to cost terms in particular for NEC suite of contracts. Knowledgeable about lump sum, cost reimbursable, cost-plus, unit price and target cost estimating. Liaising with legal department to ensure contractual terms and conditions are prepared and collated as part of any tender submission. Managing commercial risk on tenders to ensure risks are identified early and either eliminated or managed appropriately. Establish and maintain relationships with contractors and vendors. Draw up project plans via Microsoft Project Software. Set-up and lead estimating reviews with Project Managers Ensuring consistency and branding compliance for all tender responses. Develop and maintain databases and use internal ERP system for cost benchmarking, norms, tools. Comply with Company procedures Experience/Knowledge: Extensive demonstrable experience of successfully leading Cost Estimating related services on large scale and complex projects, programmes and portfolios in an engineering or technical environment in the nuclear industry Strong Intercompany and Client Management Skills Demonstrable experience of meeting agreed targets Excellent communication skills both written and verbal Experienced in technical writing Experience of using spreadsheets and complex estimating, pricing models and cost management tools Commercial and contract awareness Must hold a current driving licence Qualifications: Ideally holds degree level qualification in mechanical / civil/structural engineering or business management and marketing or similar technical qualifications Skills: Ability to use a range of IT packages, Microsoft Office and bespoke packages Exceptional relationship building skills Self-motivated and proactive Commercial awareness and understanding of the Construction process Excellent communication skills, both oral & written Negotiation skills and ability to apply those skills internally, externally & with our supply chain Positive attitude at all times and the ability to integrate and play active part in the Construction Team Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise to meet deadlines Keen to pursue personal development needs and maintain up-to-date knowledge Highly numerate Interested applicants must be eligible to work legally in the UK.
