The Point of Care Testing (POCT) Department at Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB) is seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated HCPC registered, Band 6 Biomedical Scientist to support and maintain the Health Board’s POCT service. The applicant should have a Hons Degree in Biomedical Sciences/Life Sciences, IBMS Specialist Diploma and post registration experience in Biomedical Science or Point of Care Testing within the NHS. The service will also consider either a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist who has not yet completed the Specialist Portfolio (Band 6 Annex 21 will apply). The Annex 21 percentage applied would be 75% or 70% of the top of the relevant band, dependent on the individual's previous experience.
The post holder will be responsible for technical, operational and maintenance procedures to support, and deliver a safe, effective and comprehensive POCT service in line with the CTMUHB POCT policy, governance and ISO standards. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the confidence to deliver training to service users.
The post is full time 37.5 hrs week based at Prince Charles Hospital, with the opportunity to work across multiple sites within the Health Board, so the ability to travel within the geography of the organisation in a timely fashion is essential.
The POCT Specialist Biomedical Scientist will assist service users in primary and secondary care to meet national and local standards for the use of POCT equipment. Key responsibilities include:
1. Supporting staff with training and competency assessments
2. E-learning, IT and software support
3. Standard Operating Procedures
4. Audits
5. Stock management
6. Contributing to accreditation processes
The role requires proficiency in using POCT devices and overseeing their operation in clinical settings. This includes ensuring adherence to Standard Operating Procedures, maintaining devices in line with Health Board policies, performing Quality Control and Quality Assurance, and providing appropriate training and assessments for users.
The post holder will assist in the training, education, quality management and support of POCT activities within the Health Board. Supervision of more junior scientific and support staff working in this specialist area will be expected, along with a contribution to service development with the support of the POCT Coordinator and POCT Manager.
