Sandwell Academy is one of the top performing schools in the region. Every year over a thousand students apply to join the Academy in Year 7, while year on year our sixth form is heavily oversubscribed. Business is one of Sandwell Academy’s specialisms and is an extremely popular option, with more than 50% of Key Stage 4 and 40% of the Sixth Form choosing a Business course. Achievement within the subject is excellent.
There are five teachers of Business and two teachers of Economics. The team are committed to delivering the highest standard of education and are enthusiastic and passionate about their subject areas. Every team member has a key role to play in developing schemes of work and resources.
At Key Stage 4 students can either study Pearson Edexcel GCSE (9-1) Business or Pearson BTEC Tech Award in Enterprise. At Post 16, students study either AQA ‘A’ Level Business, Pearson BTEC Extended Certificate or Diploma in Business or Pearson Edexcel ‘A’ Level Economics B. We are keen to give students a range of experiences and provide visits off site, field trips and invite guest speakers and industrialists into the Academy.
Business has state of the art facilities with three designated study rooms and three large suites of Dell PCs. All teaching spaces are equipped with interactive smart boards and the latest technology which enhance the learning experience for all students and are conducive to outstanding learning. ICT plays a large role in planning and delivery of the curriculum and students can access resources online from home.

About the Academy
Sandwell Academy opened in September 2006 and in January 2014 was judged outstanding by Ofsted for the second time. We offer you the opportunity to make a positive contribution in this over-subscribed school which specialises in Sport and Business Enterprise in the culturally diverse borough of Sandwell. The Academy educates approximately 1250 students, including the Sixth Form. Aims
The general aim of Sandwell Academy is to maximise student performance in all its forms. We offer a broad curriculum which includes the National Curriculum with the opportunity of specialising in Physical Education and Business Enterprise. In the Post 16 phase, we provide a wide range of vocational and academic opportunities for students of all abilities, emphasising opportunities in Physical Education, Sport, Business Enterprise and use of Information Technology when appropriate.
Objectives
* To improve attendance to that above local and national average.
* To develop qualities of enterprise, self reliance and responsibility.
* To involve, as fully as possible, the wider community, including industry, business, commerce and parents in the education and training of the students.
* To operate a longer school day.
* To share research with the neighbouring schools and the educational community and where possible support collaborative developments locally.
* To remove the artificial barrier that exists between vocational and A-Level courses.
* To improve Post 16 staying on rates to those comparable with France, Germany, USA and Japan.
* To deliver the National Curriculum with extra Physical Education and Business Enterprise.
* To develop students as independent learners, preparing them for life long learning.
* To ensure that all students obtain their educational entitlement, irrespective of gender, religion or special need.
