As a senior employee of the Health Board, the postholder will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Health Board's patients.
Integral to the responsibilities of the post are the following requirements:

2. To undertake all work in accordance with the Health Board's procedures and operating policies.
Main duties of the job
1. To contribute actively to the content areas of the 1000 Lives Plus Campaign and any other subsequent patient safety campaign.
2. To work within the financial and other restraints decided upon by the Health Board. Additional expenses of any kind will not be committed without the approval of the appropriate manager/budget holder.
3. Observe the rules, policies, procedures and standards of Aneurin Bevan Local Health Board together with all relevant statutory and professional obligations.
4. Observe and maintain strict confidentiality of personal information relating to patients and staff.

Job responsibilities
1. To provide, with clinical colleagues (as appropriate), a service in Ophthalmology to the hospitals so designated with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness.
2. Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in your charge in liaison with consultant colleagues and for the proper functioning of the department in line with the Operational Policy and Strategic Plan (as amended from time to time).
3. Requirement to participate in medical audit and in continuing medical education in ways which are acceptable to the Health Board.
4. All clinical staff are accountable and responsible for their own clinical competence and should limit their actions to those for which they are deemed competent. Clinical staff are also required to comply with the requirements of their professional organisations regarding supervision.
5. The postholder will participate in a full shift working pattern consisting of 8 DCC's and 2 SPA's.
6. To be familiar with and actively promote adherence to the regulatory framework including NICE and National Service Framework Guidance and to actively promote professional standards.
7. To undertake all work in accordance with the Health Boards procedures and operating policies.
8. To work actively to reduce unintended harm to patients.
9. To adhere to the Health Boards Clinical Incident Policy.
10. To participate in an annual Job Planning Review process.
11. To participate in the Health Boards Annual Appraisal process.
12. To work within the financial and other restraints decided upon by the Health Board. Additional expenses of any kind will not be committed without the approval of the appropriate manager/budget holder.
13. Subject to the Terms and Conditions of Service, an expectation to observe policies and procedures of the Health Board drawn up in consultation with the profession where they involve clinical matters.
