About the Role Our client is establishing a new, centralised Debt Recovery Team to help maximise income, reduce debt, and improve recovery processes. We’re looking for two Senior Business Support Officers to support this initiative and ensure efficient, effective debt recovery. This role is hybrid, but you must be local to Bristol and able to attend the office regularly. Key Responsibilities Take ownership of end-to-end debt recovery processes, ensuring effective case management. Identify and pursue debtors via phone calls, emails, and letters. Use debt/financial software to track cases and manage accounts. Provide specialist business support, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. Solve complex problems and make evidence-based decisions in real time. Assist in process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Supervise, guide, and allocate work to junior staff as needed. Handle escalated or challenging debt recovery cases, ensuring fair and professional resolution. Support the Team Leader, including deputising when required. Essential Skills & Experience ✔ Relevant Level 3 qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3, BTEC, A Levels) OR equivalent experience. ✔ Ability to develop and apply specialist knowledge, including debt recovery legislation and best practices. ✔ Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound, evidence-based decisions. ✔ Ability to manage a complex workload, prioritising multiple tasks effectively. ✔ Ability to work independently, delivering work to agreed targets and standards. ✔ High level of accuracy and attention to detail. ✔ Willingness to model and promote the council’s values: Dedicated, Respect, Ownership, Curious, Collaborative. ✔ Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with customers and colleagues. ✔ Knowledge or experience of equalities and diversity issues. ✔ Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel) and willingness to learn new systems.
