Copy Editor Cooley is seeking a Copy Editor to join the Marketing & Business Development team. Position summary: The Copy Editor will work to transform legal marketing materials into dynamic, strategic and concise brand messaging by improving clarity, correcting typos, fact checking, maintaining consistency and adhering to a style guide. This is a key role at the centre of all marketing copy, working across departments and various stakeholders to craft and hone brand messaging for video, print and online. As part of the content team and reporting to the Associate Director, Marketing Content Strategy, there will be opportunity to write copy for high-priority projects and influence firm branding and style. Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Position responsibilities: Copy edit and proofread Cooley’s marketing materials, including external messaging, internal communications and client-focused projects, to ensure consistency and accuracy in brand voice, style, tone and grammar Work with marketing department colleagues and firmwide stakeholders to develop new, impactful marketing messages Form close working relationships with our design, multimedia, digital marketing, comms and operations teams to ensure excellent work product and process efficiencies Help shape the Cooley style guide, run trainings and execute special projects Provide periodic feedback to marketing department colleagues to uphold the Cooley style and brand, including implementing new methods of coaching others on writing, style and voice Meet regularly with the Associate Director, Marketing Content Strategy, to forecast workload, prioritize work and drive initiatives Quickly learn and continually upgrade legal industry knowledge and stay abreast of copywriting trends across industries All other duties as assigned or required Skills and experience: Required : Previous experience in copy editing and proofreading Command and knowledge of the Associated Press Stylebook Available to work overtime, as required After orientation at Cooley LLP, exhibit proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage and other firm applications Preferred : Bachelor’s degree in English or Journalism Excellent writing skills Experience or interest in legal and technology industries Experience in editing British and American English content Competencies: Exhibit passion for and proficiency in the process of copy editing Comfort in editing English content from various global regions, including from our offices in the US, Europe and Asia Knowledge of British and American English spelling and grammar rules as well as communication style differences Strong attention to detail and willingness to go the extra mile to ensure accuracy and consistency Innate sense of efficiency with strong time and project management skills Self-starter who can review large quantities of copy under deadlines and prioritize their slate of projects effectively Ability to juggle multiple, competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment and to adjust intensity of editing according to specified needs per project Have a keen eye for pairing stellar copy with visual elements with the goal of enhancing both Proven ability to provide clear, constructive feedback to writers and project leads Demonstrate aptitude for building relationships and collaborating across departments and interdepartmental groups Ability to embrace and foster change in a highly collaborative environment Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal Ability to comprehend and take accurate notes Strong analytical and fact checking skills Reliable and punctual Cooley offers an excellent benefits package and competitive compensation including: Enhanced family leave Health and dental insurance Group income protection Life assurance Pension Fertility benefits Wellness programs Employee discounts including a fitness and nutrition allowance And more A comprehensive benefits brochure will be provided to all candidates during the interview process.
