Job Title: Support Worker
Reporting to: Team Leader
The Apuldram Centre is an independent charity and provider of adult social care. We run a Supported Living Service where we support up to 40 adults with a learning disability to live independently in their own tenancies in a variety of different settings. We currently support tenants located in central / outskirts of Chichester, Felpham, Witterings and Selsey.
We are looking for Support Workers to join our friendly community team who are passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of the people we support. Your passion will enable the people who use our service to enjoy independence, skills development and fulfilment.
Hours: On a rota basis, flexible with some work in the evenings and weekends. We offer fair and competitive pay rates based on qualifications and successful completion of the probationary period. Training is provided for those new to care.
Support Workers must have a willingness to work Sleep-in's, for which an allowance of £70 per night is paid. Benefits include 30 days paid holiday (including bank holidays), service-related increment, and a contributory stakeholder pension scheme. A satisfactory enhanced disclosure check is required for this post.
Job Purpose:
To provide assistance with personal care and other daily tasks to customers with a learning disability within their homes, maximising independence and encouraging choice, participation, and motivation.
Key Responsibilities:
* Undertake personal support and daily living tasks as agreed with the customer and professionals involved.
* Provide customers with opportunities to express their preferences regarding support tasks.
* Contribute to effective communication with customers and other staff members.
* Communicate regularly with House Coordinators and Team Leaders regarding changes to customer conditions.
* Encourage customers to maintain independence and participate in the running of the service.
* Update the organisation's electronic care management platform, Log My Care.
* Support customers to access local facilities and opportunities.
* Encourage customers to develop domestic skills and assist in food preparation.
* Help customers with mobility problems and assist in the use of support aids.
* Comply with all health and safety policies and procedures.
* Participate in supervision, staff meetings, and training activities.
* Maintain and improve own knowledge and skills through experience and training.
* Undertake additional responsibilities as requested by management.
* Perform any other reasonable duties requested.
Person Specification:
ESSENTIAL
* Basic level of numeracy and literacy
* Commitment to learning and professional development
* Willingness to obtain NVQ level 2 in care
* Discreet and able to maintain confidentiality
* Able to travel to cover work allocated on the rota
DESIRABLE
* NVQ level 2/3 in care
* First Aid training
* Basic Food Hygiene Certificate
* Understanding of the Mental Capacity Act
* Previous experience supporting adults with learning disabilities
* Full driving licence and car owner
