Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Manage the housekeeping of PACS/RIS data with the radiologists/radiographers in a timely fashion. Administer the system on a daily basis to ensure correct and efficient operation. The post holder will be involved in auditing, fault reporting, troubleshooting and maintenance of the current PACS and RIS databases. Act as the point of contact for current PACS/RIS equipment suppliers. Support the training of end users to ensure a consistent standard of working practices across all Trust sites. Assist with to maintain operational knowledge of external service systems (IEP, Medica, etc.) as well as escalating backlogs related to these systems. Comply with the Epsom and St Helier Hospital NHS Trust policies, procedures, data quality policy and rules of confidentiality of information. To undertake any other duties which may be reasonably regarded as within the nature of the duties, responsibilities and grade of the post as defined, subject to the proviso that appropriate training is given. Work flexibly in order to meet the changing needs of the Imaging service e.g. extended days, attending service disruption issues during out of hours.
Person specification
Education
Essential criteria
* Degree in Radiology, Healthcare IT, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
* Significant experience working with PACS and radiology systems in a healthcare environment.
* Strong understanding of imaging workflows and the integration of PACS with RIS, EPR, and imaging modalities.
* Experience providing technical support, system troubleshooting, and user training.
Desirable criteria
* Further qualifications or accreditation related to digital transformation and deployment.
Skills/Abilities
Essential criteria
* Knowledge of DICOM, HL7, and various order comms systems.
* Have knowledge of RIS and PACS technology and where these technologies fit in an Imaging Department.
* Experience of providing training and production of User Guides and Standard Operating Procedures.
* Basic data analysis experience using standard Microsoft tools.
* Ability to identify the need for and to develop policy to support the operation of complex departmental workflow.
* Able to work flexibly based on needs of service.
* Ability to teach and mentor junior staff and new members of staff.
* Understanding of data protection act and issues relating to clinical data.
* Ability to cope with work pressures and manage time effectively.
* Ability to make prompt decisions based on knowledge, experience and circumstances.
* Ability to work as part of a team.

Experience

* Up to date knowledge and experience of general imaging techniques and working practices within Radiology Departments.
* Data analysis experience using standard tools.
* Awareness of clinical governance issue in relation to patient care.
* Understanding of factors affecting service throughput and quality.
* Knowledge of clinical processes within an Acute Trust setting.
* Experience of systems, maintenance and support within a clinical environment.
* Portfolio demonstrating ongoing CPD.
Desirable criteria
* Experience of supporting real-time clinical systems in a demanding environment.
* Experience in risk analysis and implementing countermeasures.
* Substantial customer liaison experience.
* Aware of service level management and familiar with service delivery economics.
