Job Purpose
Working with a wide range of equipment, the Network Asset Engineer will implement an effective and efficient maintenance service on all Wastewater Network Maintenance sites, including pumping stations, powered screens and detention tanks. They will provide a service to internal and external customers in order to achieve the quality, performance and safety standards of the company.
Job Accountabilities
You will be accountable for carrying out reactive, planned and proactive fault identification, investigation and analysis to establish the root cause of all mechanical issues. You will complete the necessary planned maintenance tasks on Wastewater Network Maintenance assets in order to ensure their reliability and ensure efficient operation and compliance with United Utilities Health and Safety policies and procedures at all times. You will also have accountability for:
* Assisting the Network Asset Controller and Network Maintainer Controller in reviewing and amending the appropriate telemetry alarm level settings at powered assets, as required.
* Identifying and raising further work and identifying capital investment needs required to avoid repeat incidents and failures at powered assets.
* Responding to reactive incidents e.g. alarms, customer calls and field notifications on standby, and carrying out the first call response on all powered assets.
* Liaising with the Network Asset Controller and Network Maintainer Controller to ensure that all assets at each powered asset/site facility are registered correctly on United Utilities corporate system at all times.
* Ensuring that all maintenance data recorded is reliable, accurate and complete at all times.
* Ensuring that all powered assets are compliant with their regulatory Environment Agency (EA) permit conditions at all times.
* Proactively looking at ways of reducing the number of repeat failures, Pollution and/or Flooding incidents at powered assets.
* Acting as the Person Controlling the Works (PCW) for all work being completed on site by Framework Contractors, ensuring that the work is completed safely, correctly, on time and within budget.
* Assisting the Network Asset Controllers and Network Maintainer Controllers in reviewing and updating the ‘Site Contingency Plans', and ensuring that the critical spares for powered assets are available at all times.
Knowledge and Skills
To succeed in this role you must hold a minimum qualification at City and Guilds or National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 3 (or equivalent) in a mechanical discipline and be a time-served engineer in Mechanical engineering or a relevant Mechanical discipline.
* It is essential that you are able to demonstrate basic maintenance understanding of the operation of Wastewater Network Assets, and a general understanding of Wastewater Network activities.
* Good information technology skills are essential and the ability to understand United Utilities systems and their capabilities and limitations.
* You will need to be capable of using your own initiative and have a flexible approach to highly varied workloads.
* Good interpersonal skills will be essential in order to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers.
* Good time management - able to work to agreed deadlines and achieve personal objectives.
* Good analytical and problem solving skills.
* Good team working skills.
* You must hold a full UK driving license.
Additional Information
* The successful candidate will be required to take part in an out of hours standby rota and must be able to respond to call outs within a reasonable time of the initial call.
* This is a physically demanding role and duties will include climbing ladders, accessing manholes, working at heights, entering confined spaces and may require working off access platforms.
