Our Engineering Team support the maintenance and operation of industry leading Steam and Gas Turbines, Generators and associated equipment. As part of the wider Engineering team, the Lead Design Engineer will develop complex FEM models to solve mechanical reliability issues and to perform root cause investigation, as well as conduct reverse engineering and product development for Gas and Steam Turbine projects.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Design, analyse and enhance structural performance of gas turbine/steam turbine systems/components by following Mitsubishi design philosophies, product/customer requirements and design practices
2. Develop and optimise design solutions by performing 3D computational simulations and hand calculations as applicable
3. Controls risk of design changes with appropriate methods like FMEA.
4. Create 3D CAD models and 2D drawings of Gas / Steam turbine components
5. Apply domain expertise in developing and accessing the health of gas/steam turbine systems/components from plant performance data and validate computational predictions
6. Work with other Engineering teams to develop and manufacture specific design solutions/products.
7. Produce detailed design documentation to control development, testing and manufacture including drawings, specifications, and quality control for manufacture.
8. Read technical specifications and provide technical comments/clarification.
9. Support in the creation of Business Case proposals for potential service solutions and to obtain management approvals
10. Identify consultants and vendors throughout the development process to ensure optimal technical and manufacturing performance.
11. Understand the implication of manufacturing methods on design and implement a “design for manufacture” mentality.
12. Plan and manage project stages and milestones including: Estimating time and costs required to complete the project. Ensure that all work carried out is in compliance with company values, procedures and standards. Provide regular reports and presentations, documenting progress and open actions.
13. Respond to internal and external customer requests for technical clarifications/resolution, using technical product knowledge and analytical skills while adhering to sound engineering principles, standards, practices, and procedures.
14. Manage project progress, engaging with all contributors, identifying and resolving issues – escalating as required.
15. Defining road maps and quantifying all required efforts (internal/external) to prepare corresponding proposals in collaboration with Sales & project managers.
16. Communicate clearly with multiple departments and internal/external partners to clarify and document all project-related issues allowing progression and evaluation throughout the project life.
17. Preparation of technical documentation, reports, specifications and drawings required to support the development, to the corporate (and external if required) standards.
18. Travel typically within EMEA, when required to customers, sites, and partner organisations for meetings, presentations, or technical investigations.
