Emergency Department Clinical Fellow
Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is now one of the largest trusts in the country, serving a population of 1.2 million people comprising acute hospital sites at Broomfield in Chelmsford, Basildon, and Southend.
We are a well-led, high-performing, and innovative organisation determined to provide the best health care services for our local population and working in the best interests of the people we serve.
Job overview
We have a wonderful opportunity to join the Accident and Emergency department as a Clinical Fellow ST1-8 where your main service commitments will be, under the supervision of the Consultants, as an ST1-2 to supervise the FY2s/CT1s or as an ST3+ to supervise the FY2s/CT1s and Junior Clinical Fellows, whilst maintaining a 'hands-on' approach with patients.
Out of hours you will be expected to assist in the running of the shop floor and manage the department using the newly initiated patterns of working to achieve the current targets. Integral within these are the ‘Resus Lead’ and ‘Rapid Assessment Team’ roles, which will be undertaken by the CESR doctors within the department. As the Clinical Fellow, you would also be expected to support the daily review clinic.
The Consultants are very committed to teaching and post-graduate training and will ensure appropriate opportunities for professional development. The rota is a full shift pattern providing 24-hour cover to the Emergency Department.
Main duties of the job
Your role will include the assessment, resuscitation, management, and safe transfer (where necessary) of seriously ill and injured patients, care of patients on the observation ward as required, referral of patients to in-patient facilities as appropriate, supervision of junior staff, and involvement in Emergency Medicine multi-disciplinary teams and meetings.
You will be involved in proactive patient management to achieve timely and high-quality assessment and management, teaching and supervision of junior medical staff and nursing staff, and actively involved in audit and the development of departmental policies.
You will play an active role in the day-to-day management and administration of the Emergency department.
