Introduction
We are looking for an enthusiastic teacher who wants to join a thriving department.
Park High is an 11-18 mixed multi-ethnic comprehensive school of almost 1500 students, situated in the London Borough of Harrow. There are very high achievement levels and excellent facilities. Ofsted (2024) judged the school good in all areas.
We can offer:
An exciting learning environment where challenging, innovative and engaging learning is at the core of all we do.
An award-winning vibrant school which continues to achieve extremely high standards, both in Harrow and beyond.
A genuine and active pursuit of well-being for all members of our community.
Outstanding outcomes with a positive Progress 8 score and zero NEETS.
Students who exhibit excellent behaviour for learning and a desire to acquire knowledge and improve themselves.
A supportive, enthusiastic and inspiring team within which to grow and develop.
An opportunity to develop your craft of teaching across three Key Stages.
Curriculum, staffing and resources
This is a dynamic Art Department which welcomes a variety of approaches to the subject of art and design. Creative risk taking and managing the challenge of new concepts in art and design are department strengths. An ability to teach (or experience with) Ceramics and Photography is desirable but not essential. The successful candidate must be willing to develop teaching skills in these areas.
Art is taught in three subject specific rooms, two of which have computer suites with Photoshop. The department has a part time Art Technician. There are facilities for ceramics and clay work, with two kilns. The department also has a photographic darkroom.
Currently Years 7, 8 and 9 students are taught in mixed ability groups. They follow schemes of learning devised in a collaborative manner with the whole department.
At KS4 students follow the EDUQAS GCSE specification in both Art, Craft and Design and Photography. The courses are popular with good uptake. Students are encouraged to take independent directions, with each project resulting in meaningful personal outcomes. A Level students follow a linear programme, and students benefit from our well-established programme with The Royal Academy of Art Attract Programme. Students are encouraged to visit relevant art exhibitions and develop an understanding of current issues within Art and Design, leading to many successfully entering degree level studies for Art and Design and Architecture.
We have been fortunate to secure the contribution of Ian Murphy to our GCSE offer this year and we continue to explore the work of current artists, affording opportunities for our students to develop their own practice. In addition, we facilitate regular visits to the wealth of galleries in London, with recent trips to Tate Modern and Tate Britain.
Tutor role
We are committed to the delivery of Personal Social Health Citizenship & Economic education (PSHCEe) which all teachers as tutors are expected to teach. As part of a whole-school approach, PSHCEe develops the qualities and attributes pupils need to thrive both as individuals and members of society. We have a high-quality provision of PSHCEe at Park which has been recognised nationally.
The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and the successful applicant must provide satisfactory references and will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
