Job Details
A Modern Apprenticeship is a work-based training programme that leads to an industry-approved qualification. The training can be both on and off-the-job, allowing Modern Apprentices (MAs) to learn the right mix of skills, abilities, and knowledge. You will work on all aspects of Building Services activities, which can range from maintenance and repair to new builds.
Fife Council Building Services Construction has a Respiratory Protective Equipment policy. This policy requires personnel working in environments where inhalation of harmful substances is a risk to wear tight-fitting protective equipment (e.g., disposable masks). Therefore, personnel must undertake a face fitting, which will require the wearer to meet regulatory requirements as per HSG 53 Respiratory Equipment at Work (HSE Guidance).
You will be working under the direct instruction of a tradesperson or alone to develop the skills and knowledge for the chosen trade while demonstrating enthusiasm and a willingness to achieve a high degree of competence.
A link to the role profile is included below. You will find more information about the job and the type of person we are looking for.
We particularly encourage applications from women, who are currently underrepresented within this type of work.
The Person
Applicants should have achieved or be expecting to achieve by August 2025:
1. 3 National 5's, or 3 Standard Grades at credit level to include English, Maths, and a relevant Science subject.
And/or an NC, SVQ1, or an NPA in the relevant engineering trade will be considered as alternative qualifications in line with SCQF Matrix; for more information, please refer to www.scqf.org.uk.
Applicants must demonstrate the ability to achieve SVQ level 3 (SCQF Level 6). You may be required to travel outside Fife to attend College to achieve this qualification.
You will have an appreciation of the construction industry and knowledge of tasks undertaken by a Gas Technician. You will have the ability to follow instructions and be able to work outside and deal with the demands of the job.
You must read the job role profile carefully and complete the application on a PC/laptop rather than a phone device if possible, to ensure all elements of the form are visible.
If you are short-listed, you will be required to carry out a skills test and, where applicable, an aptitude test. This will enable us to observe your hand skills, attitude, and ability to follow instructions; you need to pass this prior to interview.
We further recommend you fully research the role of the individual trade you are applying for within the construction industry.
