Can you help us tell the best stories from across the council?
These will be the tales that make our hearts melt, or sing with pride, but also the ones that show the hard graft we put in and excellent results we get out as we do our best for Islington every day. You’ll provide advice on communications to executive leads, senior officers and service leads on allocated portfolio areas. Using data-driven, targeted and culturally competent principles, you’ll advise on how to promote work through campaigns and how best to involve residents in decision-making. You’ll be line managed by a Strategic Campaigns Advisor but will also hold your own portfolio. You’ll contribute to and run major council campaigns and deliver integrated forward plans ensuring work and projects are presented to residents, businesses, and stakeholders in a coordinated way that is connected to the council’s key mission and objectives. You’ll be part of the team who work directly with journalists to answer media enquiries and to promote the council’s services, policies, and objectives, in close collaboration with the Media and Public Affairs Manager. Joining a corporate communications team with a reputation for excellent delivery and outcomes, you’ll learn on the job as well as being offered bespoke training from some of the best communicators in the industry.
Responsibilities:
1. Producing written, video, and audio communications as directed by managers.
2. Generating innovative communications ideas and creating engaging content for all council channels to support the team in delivering its strategic objectives.
3. Supporting the production of media work, marketing collateral, events, and internal communications work, helping to plan, research, and edit content, arrange interviews, support event organization, and other tasks.
4. Commissioning and working with the Creative and Brand, and Digital Communications and Engagement teams to generate eye-catching and engaging visual content for social media, email marketing, and marketing collateral.
5. Attending meetings with services to work with them to understand service communication priorities and effectively forward plan.
6. Contributing to team forward planning and evaluation processes.
7. Developing and maintaining positive and productive working relationships with a range of colleagues across the council and external partners where necessary.
8. Attending evening or weekend meetings or events when necessary, with time off in lieu.
9. Being a part of the out of hours on-call rota.
