Discover more about our company wide benefits and life at GSK on our webpage Life at GSK | GSK Computational histologist – Data analyst This role will be essential for analyzing complex spatial biology datasets and accelerating the adoption of methods such as 3D histology and virtual staining. These methods enhance efficiency, reduce the cost of histopathology data delivery, provide more biological insights from tissues and improve the operational effectiveness of the histology labs at GSK. In this role you will: Lead the analysis of 3D images to support investments in ex-vivo 3D imaging technologies and generate computational models for stain-to-stain transformation and virtual stain from un/stained digitally scanned images. Lead the analysis of data for defined spatial multiplex imaging project packages (multiplex IF, 10X Xenium/Visium). Generate analysis-ready data by processing raw data from GSK instrumentation – coding in R/python and develop ad-hoc bioinformatic code and validate publicly available software packages/scripts to help GSK extract maximum value from specific datasets. Contribute and oversee scientific collaborations with academic institutions and commercial partners to develop models for virtual staining or 3D histology and contribute to broader non-clinical histology image and data analysis packages in support of project teams, performing image/data analysis as appropriate and required. Contribute to scientific investigations by undertaking literature reviews, provide scientific and technical expertise to experimental design and contribute to the scientific interpretation of data, including generating reports and figures for publications (where required), and presenting at internal and external meetings. Line management responsibilities for a data sciences apprentice starting in Sep 2025 and provide advice, training, mentoring and support in computational data analysis to members of the group/department as appropriate. Integration with GSK data processes – cloud, GSK database, ELN app, etc and compliance of laboratory staff with data standards and that all activities comply with appropriate Health and Safety legislation, Company Codes of Practise and local rules, and are conducted in a safe manner. Basic Qualifications & Skills: We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals: Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Computer Sciences or related discipline; equivalent experience will be considered. Experience in organs and organoids 3D image analysis in fixed samples and/or experience of Virtual staining and methods to digitally generate histological stains (H&E, Special Staining, IHC, IF) Experience in spatial multiplex imaging data analysis (multiplex IF, 10X Xenium/Visium). Experience with computer coding (R/python) and with complex mathematical concepts Experience in leading scientific collaborations with academic institutions and commercial partners and experience in mentoring and supervising students and junior colleagues Proven track record of leading complex matrix projects through conception, and delivery and evidence of being able to develop strong interpersonal relationships with colleagues with a diverse set of skills and experience Preferred Qualifications & Skills: Please note the following skills are not necessary, just preferred, if you do not have them, please still apply: PhD in a Life Sciences, Computer Sciences or related discipline related discipline Experience in image data visualization and analysis by using both commercial and open-source software packages (Halo, Visiopharm, etc).
