The Role
To ensure students and staff have access to a trained counsellor for personal support and for advice in supporting others.
The Counselling team is an integral part of the holistic pastoral care system at Cardinal Newman College. They offer counselling to all students at the college and work closely with the Achievement Tutor team and the Designated Safeguarding lead and their deputies.
The counselling team is part of the wellbeing services offered to c.4000 students across the college in both years 12 and 13 as well as students from our HE provision. The team consists of 3 qualified counsellors and 3 wellbeing practitioners. All counsellors are registered members of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapy (BACP) and abide by their ethical framework. The wellbeing services team is centrally placed in the college and includes a wellbeing room and private counselling rooms.
The main duties and responsibilities of this role include:
* To offer to all students at need an individual counselling service, employing a variety of counselling techniques tailored to individual needs;
* To employ a triage service to assess the need for support;
* To work with stakeholders from other agencies with a view to easing referrals and accessing specialist consultants;
* To attend and contribute to peer supervision once a month;
* To report any safeguarding issues to the college’s designated safeguarding team;

The Counselling team is looking for someone who has an understanding of the developmental, emotional, social and educational issues of students, very good interpersonal skills and someone who has a qualification in Counselling, minimum Diploma standard.
You should display the values, attitudes, and behaviours consistent with the Catholic Ethos of the College and have a commitment to equality/diversity and the safeguarding of young people and vulnerable adults.
Terms and Conditions
Hours: 25 hours per week, term time only. Starting and finishing times as agreed.
Salary: The post will be paid on the Sixth Form Colleges’ Support Staff Pay Spine at points 20 to 23 – pro rata to £34,391 to £37,385 per annum. Actual Salary £20,049.78 to £21,795.27 per annum.
