Full job description
Job Purpose: To make a substantial and positive contribution to the strategic direction of the School/College through leading and contributing to research of international standard, high quality teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, securing research funding, and providing academic leadership and management within the School/College.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Undertake a leading role in the development and implementation of individual and/or joint research projects of international standard.
2. Act as principal investigator or project leader on major research projects with a portfolio of research activity and publications of high quality and impact.
3. Take a lead in major funding bids and related activities.
4. Undertake academic management and leadership roles and responsibilities.
5. Create and develop effective networks with students, veterinary clinicians and other staff across the University.
6. Lead the development of inclusive and innovative approaches to teaching, learning and assessment.
7. Regularly attend and participate in appropriate activities to effectively contribute to the subject specialism.
8. Supervise individual student projects at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
9. Actively engage with clinicians in the University’s Small Animal Hospital.
10. Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.
11. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of School.
12. Contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Qualifications
1. A1. Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12 (PhD) in animal biology, genomics and health or related discipline.
2. B1. Membership of a relevant professional body.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
1. C1. Recognised expertise in comparative genomics or related omics discipline.
2. C2. Substantial track record of published research of international standard.
3. C3. Established track record of successfully securing funding for research projects.
4. C4. Proven ability to plan and lead staff and efficiently deploy resources.
5. C5. Ability to disseminate conceptual and complex ideas to a wide variety of audiences.
6. C6. Ability to forge new and effective relationships with colleagues.
7. C7. Demonstrated commitment to open research.
8. C8. A sustained track record of substantial research income.
9. C9. Maintaining an established portfolio of research activity of international quality.
10. C10. A thorough understanding of, and track record in, contributing to broader academic leadership and management.
11. C11. Proven commitment to supporting the career development of colleagues.
Additional Information: SBOHVM is home to researchers studying organismal biology and animal health across diverse systems. The post holder would be based on the University of Glasgow’s Garscube campus.
Terms and Conditions: Salary will be Professor (Grade 10) within the Professorial range and subject to negotiation. This post is full time (35 hours per week) and open ended.
