Farne Salmon
Farne Salmon, based in Duns, is one of the leading producers of hot and cold smoked salmon products in the UK and is seeking a talented chemical engineer to lead ground-breaking research on the scientific principles that influence smoked salmon production.
* Immediate start
* Full-time (37.5 hours a week)
* Duration: up to 12 months
* Working pattern: Office-based, with potential option to WFH one day a week.
The Organisation
Farne Salmon and Trout is located in the picturesque Borders of Scotland, in Duns, a small market town located 45 miles south of Edinburgh and 15 miles west of Berwick upon Tweed. The Duns factory is now amongst the biggest smoked salmon facilities in Europe. In 1982, Farne started trading with a staff of 6. Now, Farne is the biggest private sector employer in the Borders with a core workforce of 500 employees.
The Role
The company is seeking a talented chemical engineer to lead ground-breaking research on the scientific principles that influence smoked salmon production. This role offers a unique opportunity to work closely with the renowned Professor Ferruh Erdogdu from Ankara University's Department of Food Engineering, who will provide remote expert guidance. The position involves extensive hands-on experimentation in our factory and the analysis of valuable historical data, with the majority of work conducted on-site.
The Candidate
The ideal candidate will meet the following requirements:
* Educated or working towards an MSc in food process technology with related mathematical modeling expertise.
* Experience with Microsoft Office and advanced user of Excel, and specialist software as required.
* Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, to enable professional interaction with a wide range of contacts, both internal and external to the business.
* Ability to organise and plan own workload and to work on own initiative.
* Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to maintain a high level of accuracy.
* A flexible, pro-active approach to work including the ability to prioritise and re-prioritise.
* Own transport would be ideal but not essential.
