This role involves managing asbestos-related statutory compliance contracts, including licensed asbestos surveys and removals, while leading a cultural shift towards more proactive asbestos management.
In this role, you’ll oversee asbestos surveys and removals, advising University project managers to protect asbestos integrity in areas where projects may impact it. What will you be doing?
* Managing compliance officers and asbestos management contractors, ensuring statutory tasks are executed and documented within timelines to maintain continuity across the estate.
* Implementing an asbestos management plan to advance safety awareness, overseeing day-to-day contractor management, and coordinating with Campus Division for seamless project handovers.
* Conducting compliance training and toolbox talks for the direct labour force, enhancing awareness and safety in compliance testing.
* Leading quarterly contractor meetings to review KPIs, health and safety incidents, financial matters, and project updates.
* Monitoring and analysing compliance documentation, audits, and asbestos register data to determine remedial actions; escalating high priority matters to senior management as needed.
* Acting as the main technical contact for asbestos management, providing stakeholders with detailed guidance on complex legislation and policy changes.
* Developing and improving the University’s asbestos register, managing both digital and paper-based reporting systems.
You should apply if
* Certification in asbestos management (e.g., BOHS P405) and substantial experience in asbestos management, including licensed removal, remediation, and waste management.
* Demonstrated experience managing a digital asbestos register (Micad) and proficiency in the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.
* A proven ability to drive change in asbestos compliance practices, ideally in a large, complex estate or similar environment.
* Strong experience in conducting risk assessments, developing method statements, and auditing contractor work to ensure regulatory compliance.
* Exceptional communication skills and the capability to provide clear guidance to project managers and stakeholders regarding asbestos regulations and safe work practices.
If you are ready to play a pivotal role in advancing the University’s approach to asbestos safety, we encourage you to apply.
