School Background:
Haven of Peace Academy (HOPAC) is a K-12 school in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania located in the tropics on the east coast of Africa with a gorgeous view of the Indian Ocean. HOPAC began in 1994 by missionaries and quickly expanded. We now have just over 400 students from 15+ countries. We serve missionary kids, Tanzanian students (our demographic majority), and expatriate students, offering an international curriculum (Cambridge) taught from a Biblical worldview.
Job Summary:
At HOPAC, we seek educators who combine professional expertise with a ministry-minded approach to their work with students. They should demonstrate a growth mindset, an eagerness to embrace a cross-cultural environment, and a commitment to developing their skills in teaching from a Biblical worldview. They should have a desire to serve and guide students in service, stewardship, and leadership.
General Responsibilities:
1. Teach Elementary.
2. Create a learning environment in which each child in the class is enabled to work.
3. Instruct students in accordance with the school curriculum and best practices in teaching and learning.
4. Maintain discipline within the classroom to enable students to work and learn.
5. Attend and participate in regular staff meetings, in-service trainings, parent consultations, and back to school nights.
6. Provide input into curriculum revision and unit plan development.
7. Keep records of students’ progress as appropriate and provide written reports each term for parents.
8. Agree to adhere to any reasonable request made by the Principal or Director.
Qualifications:
- 3 years teaching experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in education or Bachelor’s degree in subject taught.
- Teacher qualification.
- Teaching experience in an international or cross-cultural environment.
Specific Skills:
- Experience teaching Primary preferred.
