Responsibilities for Electronics Engineer
1. Offer specialist knowledge in circuit design, component selection, and PCB technology across areas such as EMC, power management, servo control, processor interfacing, and communications.
2. Provide expertise in power and signal transmission over wired media, including the ability to define and critically assess system architecture, power management strategies, system wiring, and production processes.
3. Play a central role in projects, establishing and maintaining high standards of engineering practice while acting as a recognised authority in the field.
4. Evaluate and refine departmental processes and practices, promoting a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
5. Engage regularly with senior management, clients, and other stakeholders, maintaining oversight of projects, technology development, and team performance, with both tactical and strategic input.
6. Lead the advancement of technology within the organisation, serving as a subject matter expert in key areas and contributing to R&D initiatives and projects.
7. Provide technical direction for multi-disciplinary projects, encouraging a systematic and collaborative approach to deliver effective solutions for customers.
8. Offer insights into resource allocation and planning for engineering teams to optimise project delivery.
9. Oversee and support a small sub-team of engineers, addressing their training and development requirements while fostering professional growth.
What are we looking for in an Electronics Engineer?
1. Possess a strong degree in a relevant discipline accredited by the IET, with typically six years of applicable experience.
2. Demonstrated expertise in leading or supervising projects and teams, covering both routine and complex tasks.
3. Comprehensive theoretical and practical understanding of electrical and electronic design principles.
4. Skilled in conducting analysis-based tasks, including circuit emulation, performance evaluations, and power budgeting.
5. Ability to identify and assess key project risks, schedule mitigations, and prioritise critical design activities.
6. Broad knowledge of the entire project lifecycle, from bid development to ongoing customer support.
7. Proven ability to apply innovative approaches to engineering challenges and leadership responsibilities.
8. Proficient in diagnosing and resolving technical issues at both PCB and system levels, with the capability to determine root causes and propose procedural improvements.
9. Accredited as a Chartered Engineer or actively working towards achieving Chartership status.
10. Experienced in leading, managing, and mentoring engineers.
11. Expertise in embedded software design, particularly with ARM/KEIL platforms.
12. Familiarity with EMC to military standards, including the ability to plan, manage, and resolve issues at both architectural and embedded levels.
13. Knowledgeable in motors and drive technologies, with the capability to calculate motor performance.
14. Aware of control systems analysis and performance techniques, with the ability to communicate these concepts effectively to engineers and stakeholders.
15. Proficient in the use of analysis and simulation tools, such as Python, Matlab, Simulink, LT-Spice, and Simetrix.
16. Competent in using management tools, including JIRA, Confluence, and MS Project.
17. Experienced in the use and management of PCB design tools, such as Altium and Cadence OrCAD.
18. Familiar with design resilience methods, including Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
19. Aware of lightning effects, both direct and indirect.
