About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Consultant to join our team on a 6-9 month fixed-term contract. This role is critical in reviewing, enhancing, and implementing a robust Health & Safety (H&S) strategy within an industrial manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will drive H&S change management, ensuring frameworks are established for compliance, risk mitigation, and the development of sustainable policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
* Conduct a comprehensive assessment of the current H&S strategy and propose improvements to elevate health and safety standards across the business.
* Lead the transformation of H&S practices within a complex, high-risk industrial setting, ensuring alignment with best practices and regulatory requirements.
* Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, including HSE regulations, ISO standards, and industry-specific safety protocols.
* Establish and refine H&S management systems, implementing effective controls to mitigate operational risks.
* Create robust, practical policies and procedures that can be effectively managed by the internal team post-contract.
* Work closely with leadership, operations, and frontline staff to embed a strong safety culture, providing training and guidance to ensure lasting improvements.
* Analyse past incidents and near-misses, implementing corrective and preventive measures to enhance workplace safety.
* Drive engagement across all levels of the organization, ensuring employees understand their role in maintaining a safe working environment.
* Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) and reporting mechanisms to track the effectiveness of H&S initiatives.
Key Skills & Experience Required:
* Proven experience in H&S leadership roles within a 24/7 industrial manufacturing environment.
* Strong background in change management and embedding H&S culture within an operational business.
* In-depth knowledge of UK health and safety legislation, regulatory frameworks, and industry standards.
* Experience implementing ISO 45001 or similar health and safety management systems.
* Demonstrated ability to engage with leadership and frontline employees to drive safety improvements.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to risk management.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
* NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification in occupational health and safety.
