Aspiring Youth Outreach Worker - Kettering - Education and Training - Aspiring Youth Justice Office - Bletchley
Ideal LSA role for Criminology and Psychology graduates.
LSA role in a specialist provision for children, aged 7-19, all of whom have been through some form of significant trauma, social, emotional, and mental health challenges.
A real focus on holistic and restorative practices, creating empathy where possible, at every opportunity. The school is far away from punitive measures; manual handling training is only used when there isn't another option.
A practical trial day will take place in school to ensure the role is suitable for you. This is dependent on whether you can start ASAP, or have a notice period and are looking for a January start.
Can you make the students' lives just that little bit better today, keep them safe, and demonstrate the value of education to the students?
In addition, can you keep the children safe? You will receive a great deal of SEN and safeguarding training, including MAPA Training. As an aspiring clinical psychologist, over the course of 10 years of qualification and solidifying your interest, you need to qualify and disqualify areas of genuine interest and where your skills need to be enhanced.
Responsibilities:
1. Work with secondary-aged students (11-16) all with EHCPs, including those with Autism, OCD, verbal and non-verbal communication, and acute social anxiety.
2. Engage in physical work combined with being pragmatic, making as much academic progress as each child's context allows.
3. Adapt to some anti-social behaviour as part of the role when aiding society's most vulnerable children; all training and support will be provided by the school.
4. Implement various therapies and holistic processes; even a little progress is a cause for success here.
5. Address challenges such as Pathological Demand Avoidance and Pervasive Developmental Disorder.
6. Focus on the cognitive ability of each student, which will be very diverse.
7. Provide positive engagement, giving the children a sense of acceptance; different approaches may be required as talking therapy will not always work.
8. Set objectives for the students and encourage as much independence as possible, especially for those in assisted living.
