Employee working groups The role We are currently recruiting for a Graduate Quantity Surveyor to join our Design Team in our Colchester Office. The role will involve providing Quantity Surveying services across a range of sectors including; education, healthcare, public sector, and commercial clients with projects ranging from £500k to £15m in size. The selected candidate will be engaged to manage the cost control of projects from initial budget advice, cost planning, procurement and contract selection, tender action and analysis, preparation of contracts, financial control through construction, settlement of final accounts and release of retentions. You will work alongside like-minded surveyors and work to complete their degree on the pathway to MRICS chartership and benefit from APC support from an experienced team of Counsellors. Please Note: This role may be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service, Baseline Personnel Security Standard, Counter Terrorist Check, Security Check, or Developed Vetting clearance. The selected candidate will… Accept instructions from clients where appropriate and to provide services for their needs. Help produce outline cost plan and budgets adapted to suit client requirements, produce preliminaries and contract documents to enable projects to be tendered. Work with other design team members to help inform the design from a cost perspective; prepare an updated monthly project cash flow if required. Assess tenders and make recommendations to clients by providing a tender analysis. Act as a support to the Project Manager where required on projects by attending site for Pre-Start and Project Meetings to advise on costings. To understand and clearly define clients’ expectations to provide advice, keep them informed of progress on projects and make them aware of technical and financial implications. When appropriate inspect works on site ensuring that the quantum of work and costs performance has been achieved and authorise payments to contractors accordingly. Help to ensure expenditure is controlled and that schemes are completed within budget and on time. Agree final accounts with Contractors and Clients. Assist in the appointment and supervision of specialist contractors when necessary. Ensure that time spent on projects is recorded. Endeavour to promote the Practice to obtain new projects and new clients. Essential skills, experience, and attributes… Degree in Quantity Surveying with 2 years experience. Full Chartered membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) or willingness to obtain full Chartered status if not already achieved (working towards APC for MRICS) Knowledge/understanding of both traditional and modern construction techniques and materials. Knowledge/understanding of Building Regulations, Approved Documents and allied legislation.
