Job description
Fixed Term for 18 months, Full Time working hours per week. Your working days will be Monday to Friday 8.00- 16.00. The Fixed Term/Secondment may end early due to the current Electrical Trade Manager being in a secondment within BCC and if they return to post early due to circumstances at the time.
We are looking for the right person to join our service, to manage a fast-paced critical service, the Response and Planned Electrical team.
You will take responsibility for the delivery of multiple workstreams, giving support and guidance where necessary, to ensure safe and high-quality maintenance programmes, repairs and installations are carried out to both domestic and communal properties within the city council housing stock.
You will have a key role to play in Bristol City Council's journey of becoming a leader within the sector for compliance and the consumer standards whilst developing their own skills with support from the wider team.
What will I be doing?
1. You will be managing a team of supervisors, quality control engineers, electrical engineers, and apprentices that will deliver electrical repairs, planned maintenance, out of hours repairs, and compliance testing. This will also involve managing the team's fleet, material spend and supplier relationships, new build onboarding, and reviewing the teams HR issues which include performance, recruitment, and training.
2. You will be required to forecast maintenance and improvements to the stock reporting these requirements to line managers to formulate future investment.
3. You will manage and be accountable for teams to ensure that all relevant Health and Safety, CDM regulations responsibilities are adhered to by in-house electricians. You will be working alongside the M&E team, Voids, Damp and Mould team, HHSRS, and all other teams within Repairs and Maintenance.
4. The role will require monitoring of multiple streams of work to ensure consistent high standards and best value for money is achieved.
What do I need to have?
1. Someone who holds a vocational qualification or HNC/HND or equivalent, or practical relevant experience in a supervisor or management role who wants to progress and develop into management. You will have practical experience in running electrical related streams of work.
2. You should have the drive to take the initiative to introduce innovations to keep continually improving the service we offer to our residents.
3. Experience in team management and leadership is essential as you will be responsible for the supervision of vital services to our customers and stakeholders.
4. You must be able to be comfortable in uncertainty and be able to apply an analytical approach to problem solving.
