Lead Full-Stack Web Developer
Department: Engineering
Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time
Location: Edinburgh
Reporting To: Bart Hipp
Description
As a Lead Full-Stack Developer, you’ll be a key member of our online team, focused on delivering high-quality, player-facing websites and web applications for our AAA games. This role involves hands-on development across the full stack, creating robust and scalable websites and web applications that serve both internal teams and our players. You’ll lead a small team of web developers, providing technical guidance while staying directly involved in coding and design.
We’re looking for someone with a proven track record of building polished, intuitive websites, and experience working with cloud technologies. A strong understanding of both front-end development and back-end services is essential, as is the ability to create engaging, user-friendly interfaces without a dedicated UI/UX team.
This is a unique opportunity to join us at a critical point as we grow our teams, shape our tech stack, and define the future of our online presence.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead a small team of web developers, providing technical guidance, code reviews, and fostering collaboration to ensure high-quality deliverables.
* Stay hands-on in the development process, contributing directly to the design, coding, testing, and deployment of player-facing websites.
* Design and develop user interfaces with a focus on player engagement and ease of use, ensuring a polished, intuitive experience without a dedicated UI/UX team.
* Ensure web applications are scalable, secure, and optimized for performance, particularly in handling high volumes of player traffic.
* Collaborate with technology and design leaders to ensure timely and effective delivery of projects.
* Work closely with the Design, Backend, and LiveOps teams to analyze project requirements and assist in task planning and execution.
* Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members, fostering a learning environment and facilitating professional growth.
Requirements
Qualifications:
* Proven experience in leading a small team of developers while still being hands-on with coding and design.
* Proficiency in web application development using JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, and React or other similar frameworks (Angular, Svelte, Vue.js), from implementation through to deployment.
* Experience with responsive design, web accessibility standards, and cross-browser compatibility.
* Knowledge of RESTful services, distributed systems, and database management with both SQL and NoSQL technologies.
* Skilled in developing services using Node.js and TypeScript, with experience in designing and managing microservice architectures.
* Understanding of web security principles, including authentication, authorization, and data encryption.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Design experience, with the ability to create clean, visually appealing user interfaces and website designs.
* Familiarity with Kubernetes and orchestrating containerized applications.
* Experience with major cloud service platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
* Prior involvement with backend services for online applications, preferably in gaming industry.
* Experience in development of RESTful services with Rust or GoLang.
