Job summary Waterfoot Medical Practice are looking to recruit a part time medicalreceptionist to join our friendly and progressive practice. Our ideal applicant is enthusiastic, hard-working, and must be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills. You will possess good organisational skills and be able to multi-task in a very busy environment. A background in Primary Care or NHS administration is desirable though not essential as training and support will be available for the right candidate. Main duties of the job The role of Receptionist is fundamental to the smoothrunning of the practice and has a unique role in building relationships withthe patients. The post holder will be the first point of contact forpatients at the practice. The role is varied and includes administrationduties, face to face work with the public and dealing with telephoneenquiries. The position is part time at 30 hours per week and is to be worked flexibly during the surgery opening hours of Monday to Friday, 7am to 8pm. Membership of NHS Pension Scheme is automatic. Initiate contact with and respond to requests from patients,other team members and associated healthcare agencies and providers. Process appointment requests for today and future appointmentsfrom patients by telephone and in person. Undertake Care Navigation signposting patients to the mostappropriate Health Care Professional. Receive incoming and make telephone calls as required. Divertcalls and take messages, ensuring accuracy of detail and prompt appropriatedelivery. Action acute and repeat prescription requests and ensure thatthey are ready for collection by the patient within 48 hours (two workingdays), either on the computer or manually. Ensuring accuracy of detail and thatthe patient is informed of prescription policy. Hand completed prescriptions to the patient checking names andaddress. Maintain the computer clinical system in an accurate and securemanner. Keep the reception area, notice-boards and leaflet dispenserstidy and free from obstructions and clutter. General use of computers for appointments, prescriptions,registering of patients, sending letters to hospital or patients, addingvaccinations, dealing with practice notes and any other input relating tomedical records. To ensure that any medical forms brought into the practice aredealt with efficiently according to practice policy. To deal with any emergency in reception or on the telephoneaccording to practice policy. To maintain housekeeping standards in reception and waitingarea. To efficiently deal with messages from GPs, nurses and staffoutside the practice such as pharmacies and social services To answer the phone and communicate messages effectively To input and receive data from computer and paper systems.
