Counsellor/Therapist (Child & Adolescent Focused)

Using evidence-based therapeutic approaches, our dedicated team ensures that young individuals and their families move from surviving to thriving.
Role Overview:
We are looking for a qualified Counsellor/Therapist with expertise in supporting children and young people experiencing emotional distress, trauma, and behavioral difficulties. The role involves delivering individual, group, and family therapy using evidence-based techniques.
This is a contract-based hybrid role, primarily based in the North West of England, with some remote work options available.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide 1:1 and group therapy for children and young people experiencing emotional, behavioral, and psychological difficulties.
2. Use evidence-based interventions (e.g., CBT, DBT, ACT, Play Therapy, Trauma-Informed Therapy) tailored to the needs of clients.
3. Conduct psychosocial assessments and develop personalised intervention plans in collaboration with families and other professionals.
4. Work closely with social workers, educational psychologists, SEN specialists, and family support teams to ensure integrated support.
5. Maintain accurate, confidential case records and adhere to ethical and safeguarding standards.
6. Provide family therapy and parental guidance sessions to enhance family dynamics and resilience.
7. Offer crisis intervention support when needed.
Essential Qualifications & Certifications:
1. A Level 4 Diploma or higher in Counselling, Psychotherapy, or Therapeutic Practice (or equivalent).
2. Professional accreditation with one of the following bodies:
* BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy)
* UKCP (UK Council for Psychotherapy)
* HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) – if an Art Therapist, Dramatherapist, or Clinical Psychologist
* NCS (National Counselling Society) – Accredited Registrant status
1. Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo one).
2. Safeguarding Children Level 2 or 3 (or willingness to complete upon appointment).
Desirable Additional Qualifications & Skills:
1. Specialist training in trauma-informed care (e.g., EMDR, TF-CBT, Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, Attachment-Based Therapy).
2. Experience working with SEN children, looked-after children (LAC), or those in residential care.
3. Training in motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy, or family mediation.
4. Understanding of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and their impact on development.
5. Ability to conduct risk assessments and contribute to multi-agency meetings.
6. Strong ability to build rapport and trust with children and young people.
7. High level of emotional intelligence, empathy, and patience.
8. Resilience in handling emotionally challenging cases.
9. Excellent communication and advocacy skills when working with families and multi-disciplinary teams.
10. Flexible and adaptive approach to meet the needs of children and families in a hybrid setting.
Work Conditions & Benefits:
