Design Manager
Location: London, Paddington
Salary: £60,000 - £70,000 plus car allowance and package
Summary
A leading infrastructure contractor is looking to hire a Design Manager to join their Work Winning Team to manage design consultant activities and deliverables to ensure they are completed in line with the agreed programme and be the technical lead on the project unless an Engineering Manager is present.
As the Design Manager you will be responsible for:
1. Managing the process, resolution and communication of all design queries as part of the project.
2. Reviewing contract requirements and ensuring compliance with requirements.
3. Raising requests for further information internally and externally from the whole project team.
4. Collaborating in the preparation of design programmes.
5. Managing communication with the Client design representative throughout the contract period.
6. Producing monthly reports on design progress and any other design specific elements.
7. Managing and updating the design deliverable schedule.
8. Reviewing all design deliverables and ensuring that they are completed to the expected standard. Challenging and resolving when not.
9. Managing and chairing design reviews with the project team.
10. Managing and chairing all design interface meetings with external parties.
11. Reviewing designs for compliance with contract requirements and tender intentions.
12. Ensuring compliance with design approval processes required by the contract.
13. Routinely monitoring and reporting on progress of the design and explaining any necessary actions.
14. Collaborating with the engagement of external suppliers/subcontractors.
15. Ensuring HOCHTIEF document register is completed by designers correctly and issued to HTUK periodically.
16. Managing provision of drawings to project team - document control.
17. Establishing technical query procedure.
18. Reviewing all design communications and collaboratively resolving queries.
19. Agreeing changes with Project team in accordance with project authority protocol.
20. Issuing instructions to Designer in accordance with project authority protocol.
21. Implementing change order management.
22. Approving designer's quality management system.
23. Leading Design Reviews with approval and acceptance bodies.
24. Supporting Assurance functions with design specific requirements.
Seeking Candidate with:
* A minimum of 5 years' experience in a Design Management role.
* A diverse background and knowledge within civil engineering and construction projects.
* A dual contractor & consultant design background.
* Degree qualified in engineering or minimum HND with substantial design management experience.
* Experience controlling external consultants and client approval teams to ensure the programme and budget is maintained or bettered.
* Be technically familiar with an extensive range of construction methods, materials and products advising on the suitability for application on site and alternatives.
* A high level technical knowledge of construction procurement and delivery process.
