Introduction We are looking for an RF/ uWave Senior Systems Design Engineer to join our Radio Systems Group. If you’re excited about developing a diverse range of RF products, delving into the intricate details of RF systems, and transforming visionary ideas into real-world solutions, then this role could be of interest to you. Cambridge Consultants has deep expertise in wireless communication technologies, with one of the largest independent wireless development teams in the world. We work across the entire wireless landscape - from high-volume consumer applications such as portable internet-based devices, through to professional high-performance systems such as the air traffic control radios used to govern the US airspace. The markets that we address include telecommunications, healthcare, industrial, satellite, consumer and automotive. This breadth of wireless activity provides tremendous variety to our team. The role You’ll join a team of 7 other RF specialists, who are responsible for delivering designs that range from discrete designs and sub-modules through to complete radio hardware systems. You’ll also work closely with the various other disciplines - such as digital hardware, embedded software and DSP – to support the delivery of comprehensive radio systems. As a Senior RF/ uWave Systems Engineer, your job will be varied and there will be plenty of opportunity to develop and refine your RF skills. You will play a key role in the creation and development of new ground-breaking wireless systems and products, from initial concept through to successful delivery. You can also expect to be involved in the following activities: Interfacing with internal project managers, technical authorities and external clients throughout the project lifecycle Defining, specifying, simulating and designing RF/ uWave components and radio systems Designing and evaluating novel radio architectures Designing hardware such as radio modems and wireless devices What we can offer Clients come to us to define, design and deliver challenging telecommunications systems and thus, you will gain experience working on novel projects not common in most product companies. You will have the opportunity to work on ground-breaking wireless designs, examples of some previous, non-confidential projects are : Ocado Smart Platform: Developing a novel air-interface and bespoke communication systems for the Ocado Smart Platform controlling hundreds of robots in grocery distribution centres The world’s largest commercial airborne antenna: Prototyping the world’s largest commercial airborne antenna to deliver superfast 5G to every corner of the globe Iridium Satellite Phone: Developing the Iridium Extreme satellite phone, the first truly-global ‘push-to-talk’ mobile communications system You will also have access to our extensive world-class facilities. Should you attend a second-stage interview, we’ll provide a tour of the labs which support hardware development engineering during your visit. These labs include: SMT component assembly on PCB EMC emissions test facilities ≤8GHz 360° antenna test facility RF and mmWave labs Requirements To be successful in this role, you will require a degree (or higher) in electronic engineering or a related discipline, with specific knowledge of RF/uWave radio systems development & circuit design. In addition, we are looking for applicants with experience within the following areas: Analogue circuit design Radio architectures Circuit, system and EM simulation tools such as Microwave office, CST and HFSS Component specification and selection Component and radio debug and testing using equipment such as VNA’s, spectrum/signal analysers, signal generators etc Schematic capture with tools such as Altium Guiding PC board layout designers EVT/DVT/PVT testing and analysis Designing and testing to EMC and regulatory radio standards An understanding of radio link budgets Antenna design / EM design desirable Signal processing and communications theory
