Purpose of Role
The Head of Sustainability and Innovation is responsible for leading environmental, energy, and innovation strategies across the regional defence estate. The role ensures compliance with UK legislation, alignment with corporate sustainability objectives, and fulfillment of client-specific and defence estate requirements. This contract is based in the South East and is site based.
Job Description
The position encompasses the line management of a team working on the support of maintenance delivery, refurbishment projects, a significant capital expenditure program, energy efficiency, waste management, ecological enhancements, and fostering innovation through new technologies and partnerships.
Responsibilities
1. Manage and mentor a multidisciplinary team, including Environmental Advisors, a Senior Energy Manager, and Utilities Management Bureau analysts, fostering a collaborative and innovative culture.
2. Develop and implement sustainability and innovation strategies aligned with legislative, corporate, client, and defence estate objectives.
3. Create and oversee annual sustainability and innovation plans, ensuring clear objectives and alignment with broader organisational goals.
4. Lead environmental, energy, and innovation initiatives to deliver measurable outcomes.
5. Monitor emerging technologies and market trends, evaluating and piloting solutions to drive innovation.
6. Ensure compliance with contractual obligations in addition to UK environmental and energy legislation, providing detailed progress reports for stakeholders.
7. Integrate sustainability and innovative technologies into refurbishment projects and capital expenditure programs.
8. Drive energy optimisation, waste reduction, and ecological enhancements across the estate.
Essential Qualifications/Skills
1. Degree in a relevant discipline and further qualifications achieved.
2. Substantial experience in developing and delivering sustainability strategies, encompassing environmental and energy initiatives, within large, complex estates or facilities management environments.
3. Possess a comprehensive understanding of UK environmental and energy legislation, with a proven ability to integrate sustainability principles into refurbishment projects and capital expenditure programmes.
4. Experience in managing multidisciplinary teams, including environmental advisors, energy managers, and utilities management bureaus, is essential, alongside a track record of fostering a collaborative and innovative team culture.
