To work with the Chief CMR Technologist to ensure the provision of a high-quality service by the CMR department at Royal Brompton Hospital, meeting the needs of referrers and maintaining high standards of patient care.
To provide a high-quality CMR scanning service for the purpose of diagnosis or research.
To promote and maintain the highest standards of patient care within the trust.
To deputise for senior colleagues when required.
To be part of a team continually committed to improving the service to patients and promoting the hospital nationally and internationally.
To work flexible hours (scanners operating 12 hours/day) and seven day working.
Main duties of the job
* To undertake scanning procedures within the CMR unit.
* To work flexibly to allow 12 hour/day operation of the scanners and seven day working.
* To undertake procedures as part of research projects.
* To liaise with CMR medical staff in the planning of investigations.
* To carry out IV cannulation for the purpose of administering Magnetic Resonance contrast agents.
* To assess CMR scans for quality and for clinical significance and to take appropriate action where necessary.
* To initiate and assist in patient resuscitation in an emergency.
* To clear up after biological or other spills in accordance with the Trust's infection control policy.
* To use initiative and judgement in the prioritising of workload, taking into account multiple clinical factors.
* To participate in regular continuing professional development including attendance at CMR Unit teaching lectures and technologist training sessions.
* Other duties in the CMR unit will be under the guidance of the Director.
About us
You will be working with a friendly team of 14 Radiographers covering 12 hour days Monday to Friday. Most people choose to work long days but we are flexible and can accommodate different shift patterns. Saturday shifts are optional at the moment but this may change subject to need.
While we are primarily a cardiac centre we do perform some non-cardiac MR most often for patients with devices (pacemakers/ICD).
We actively encourage you to further your knowledge and have a fund available to staff (after a minimum term of employment) to help with your CPD requirements.
Person Specification
Experience
* Minimum of 3 years MR scanning experience.
* Experience in Cardiac MRI.
Knowledge
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* Attended short course in MRI.
Skills
* Cannulation certificate or willing to attend cannulation course.
