Temporary Busway Safety Officer

Pay Rate: £19.00 per hour PAYE
37 Monday – Friday, 09:00 - 17:30
This opening assignment is for 3-4 months
City: HUNTINGDON
Busway Safety Officers will conduct daily and monthly inspections of the busway and vehicles, identifying defects, hazards, and ensuring that accuracy and detail are maintained and control measures are in place and followed to remove risk. They will also support the Lead Safety Officer in implementing corrective actions. They will be a key point of contact between contractors and maintenance teams.
Actively establish good customer relationships with contractors and maintenance teams, the wider H&T service and other interested parties.
Key Responsibilities:
Inspection of all aspects of the Busway including infrastructure, vehicles identifying defects, hazards, and ensuring that control measures are in place and followed. They will also support the Lead Safety Officer in implementing corrective actions.
Apply initiative and technical judgement to facilitate the resolution of safety and associated issues as they arise responding briskly to all reports of near miss and collision or injury incidents. To achieve an acceptable outcome that works hand in hand with the delivery of a safe and regular bus service.
Perform daily visual inspections and detailed monthly route inspections in line with legislation and guidance, and reporting defects onto the system to ensure a timely resolution of safety issues and that reminders are generated.
Track and monitor maintenance schedules, ensuring compliance onto an automated system so they can be reviewed and monitored by the Lead Busway Safety Officer.
Maintain a methodical approach to dealing with and record keeping relevant inspection records.
Provide input into quarterly safety reports regarding defect trends and maintenance outcomes which will determine the level of action and response required. The postholder will have responsibility for creating, reviewing and actioning the safety reports to provide to the Lead Busway Safety Officer to present.
Responsible for the prompt and efficient management of enquiries, incidents and correspondence that are raised by members of the public, and ensuring they are escalated swiftly to the Lead Busway Safety Officer if required.
Liaise with colleagues across the directorate and the Council to ensure the service is delivered in the most efficient, effective and coordinated manner.
Qualifications:
NEBOSH (Occupational Health and Safety) or IOSH (Managing Safely in Rail)
Knowledge:
Knowledge of the Railway and Transport Safety Act 2003, and Railways and Other Guided Transport Systems (Safety) Regulations 2006
Experience:
Experience in engineering, infrastructure maintenance, or a safety role related to transportation; qualifications in transport safety or maintenance
Experience working with busways, tramways and/or railways
Experience of working within Busway transport networks or other guided transport.
Skills & Abilities:
Good communication and interpersonal skills, both verbally and written, including the ability to respond clearly and courteously, even in difficult situations.
Good negotiating skills
Ability to organise and prioritise own workload to meet deadlines and targets
Ability to visit offices and sites, when necessary, where public transport is limited.
