Job Title: Bulks Shift Supervisor
Location: Port of Tilbury
Compensation: £46,000-£50,000
Shifts: Monday-Friday weekly shift rotation (Early 0600-1400 & Late 1400-2200)

About The Role
We are looking for an experienced and proactive Shift Supervisor to lead and support our operations team across a 24-hour shift pattern, Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend cover. This role is key to ensuring safe, efficient, and productive port operations while delivering a high level of service to our customers and maintaining operational standards.
Your key responsibilities will include:
* Lead and supervise the shift team, providing clear direction, coaching, and on-the-job support
* Ensure all operational tasks are completed efficiently and safely during the shift
* Manage effective communication and working relationships with customers throughout shift operations
* Maintain accurate records of vessel movements, stock, and productivity
* Conduct incident and accident investigations, including drug and alcohol testing where required
* Monitor and enforce health and safety standards, including PPE compliance and adherence to method statements
* Act as a point of contact for operational issues and escalation during shift hours
* Support continuous improvement and uphold high performance standards within the team
What are we looking for?
We're seeking a motivated and reliable individual with a strong interest in team leadership and operational efficiency. Ideally, you’ll have experience working with mechanical handling equipment in a port or industrial environment and feel confident supervising teams or are keen to develop into a leadership role. A solid understanding of stock control and operational systems, along with good IT skills, will support you in delivering high standards across shift operations. A proactive mindset, willingness to learn, and commitment to safety are essential.
Skills and experience required:
* Experience with bulk mechanical handling equipment
* Supervisory experience or a strong willingness to train and develop into a leadership role
* Confident using IT systems and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
* Familiarity with Commtrac or similar stock control systems and Destin8 would be desirable
* Strong organisational and communication skills
* Health and safety awareness with a focus on safe operational practices

* Experience working with bulk mechanical handling equipment or in a similar operational environment
* Strong IT literacy, with working knowledge of Microsoft Office; familiarity with stock control systems is an advantage
* Willingness to develop into a supervisory role or previous experience leading a team in a shift-based setting
